Normal price for Oil Change

I normally do this myself, but because of a busy work travel schedule decided to have it done while I was gone. Holy cow, never again! The labor rate of $80 per hr was ridiculous! What do others pay?

$80 per hour is cheap around here but that seems steep for just the oil. I think the going rate is $40???? Not sure because it does not take and hour to change your oil. Sounds like you got taken advantage of unless they did more than just oil.

holy cow, I worked at a family friends marina as a teenager. I used to do the oil changes. They take all of ten minutes with a pump.

Yeah, spend a few dollars and buy the shureflo pump system. You will have it for years to come and changing the oil costs about $20 for the oil and the filter. About 15mins to pump out the oil and change the filter....

Tampa, Yes you are correct, I had them look for any gas leaks, so that would have taken the hr.

$70-100/ hour is about inline with shop rates in my area.

30 min labor plus supplies, your lookin at around $60 for the oil change.

$136 and some change in Milwaukee after tax. I was going to do it myself, but couldn't find the filter, and it's not because I don't know what a filter looks like.

The shop had so much fun doing it, the service manager suggested that I get a remote oil filter and do it myself. I think it took them longer than 30 minutes for sure.

I called last week and they wanted $140 to change the oil. I picked up the stuff at autozone for $25. Doing it myself.

Damn, I am going to put an ad on craigslist to do it for $75 and I will come to people's house. The filter and oil will cost me about $15 since my company sells both.

Brett - I bet if you were serious about that you could make some good coin. I pay about $125 a oil change plus I have to drive it an hour and twenty minutes each way so if someone was wiling to come to my house to do it I would jump at it and it would be worth, for me, a minimum of $125.

Just did mine on Friday... 9 quarts of synthetic and a filter, about $70 and I did myself... Shop rate is $95 per hour, so I'm sure it would have been close to $150 if I let them do it.

I was kind of surprised too.. That's what the manual said and that's what it took to get it to the right mark on the dipstick... 7.4 Volvo...
