where to buy blue run dry impeller for mercruiser?

Where can I buy the global blue run dry impeller for a black scorpion motor?

Defender will special order it from Globe.If yours is Merc. part#47-862232A2,the Globe part# is 2002.

are they really that much better than the other ones?

I don't know from experience,but they claim you can run them dry up to 15mins.I haven't bought one,was looking into getting one and the #2002 isn't stocked by anyone that I could find.Defender's website said contact them with special requests and they replied that they could get on special order at about $50.00+S&H.My friend gave me a new Merc. one so I didn't need to buy or I would have given a blue one a try.

I put one in the Vride 2 yrs ago. I'll probably swap it out this fall for a new one, then throw the old one in the glovebox as a backup.
We will ride late fall & early spring, and winterize after each day till the weather warms up for good. As a part of my winterizing process, I'll drain the block, exhaust, heater, & shower. Then start the boat on the trailer to blow out everything from the engine & mufflers. At that point everything is pretty dry so we won't have problems if there is a fluke freeze. Obviously it's not really "dry", it just doesn't have fresh water coming in too. If I do this a dozen times a year, for a few seconds each time, I can't have more than a minute or two of "dry" run time on the impeller after 2 years.

I used to do the same process with the Johnson 812 too. I lost one when it was just about 2 yrs old. It melted on the Air Santa run on Christmas eve. Santa had to get a pull from someone else that year.
