What size board do you prefer?

I've road a 142 ever since I began riding and this past year I took a quick set on a 138... Needless to say after that set I've been wanting a smaller board. Im 5'10" around 180lbs so I felt comfortable on both boards, how ever a smaller board means a lighter board!

I also know that Harley rides a 134... Obviously his skill level is beyond any other, but has any one else experienced riding a board this size?

Someone make my decision of keeping my 142 or getting a smaller board easier!

I am your size and ride have ridden a 138 for years. 5' 10" @ 178lbs. I am beginning to look for a 140ish flex board for the benefit of my 49yo knees. Aside from that I never felt the 138 to be slow or draggy. I ride usually at 70' and 23 mph. In fact most of the guys who ride it love it. I think shape and rocker will provide the most difference in feel.
Its an old CWB 138 Transcend if that matters.

It really depends on surface area. I'm 5-9 165 and I typically ride 142-138 range. If the board is beefy like a Ronix district, I'll go 138 all day, but I prefer the 143 in the Ronix Code because it is a leaner board. I bet the surface area between the two is about the same. At 180, there aren't many good choices for you under 138 unless you are looking for an arm workout. The pros riding 135s are little dudes with insane strength to weight ratios. Most pros are riding around 140.

Definitely understand both above posts. I was just curious on the smaller boards, I would never attempt to ride anything smaller than a 138. But I am strongly considering the 138 hoping to have a little bit of a lighter board and still maintain a fast board.

I'm 5-7, 140lb and ride a 142. I rode a 134 for years, but like the larger size now.

The new Ronix One time bombs are pretty darn light. I'd bet the 142 is close to the weight of most other 138s.

My 138 Time bomb is like a feather. Love that board.

Good info! That's the exact board I am planning to get in a 138. Currently riding a LF remedy 142 and just not impressed with this board.

You will love the board. It's amazing. Best board I've owned.

With that said I am 5'9" and 155lbs and this board is the perfect size for me.

But if I weighed 25lbs more I'd be looking at the next size up. I honestly don't think there is one trick that you could do on the 138 and not on the 142.

It's not that the 138 would be way to small, but the increased surface area of the 142 would give you more pop and ride with less drag.

I ride a 136cm Slingshot Oli. According to their charts, it's good for riders weighing 100 to 175. I weight between 165 and 170 typically so I went with it. their next size up was the 140cm and they say that's for riders 145lbs to 235lbs. I didn't feel like going with the larger size and I've been pretty happy with my board so far.

My previous board was quite a few years back (and a few pounds less on me!) but it was a hyperlite Belmont that was likewise a 136.

I'm 6ft and I weigh 185lb. I ride a 142 district now and I rode a 136 Shane for my first half a year of wakeboarding because I got the board with the boat. I'm a beginner so I don't have too much insight. However the first thing I noticed is how much easier it is to get up out of the water and how much less energy in generally that I use since the board stay afloat more. It's not necessarily directly noticeable, but I think it extends my set time.

I have tested a little shorter boards and it is pretty fine to me

Bryan.....I had a '14 Ronix Timebomb in a 134 (because I was used to riding short boards) and didn't care much for it. Got a '14 Parks board in a 139 and I never looked back. You and I are exactly the same size, 5'10" and 180lbs. I also just got a '15 Ronix One Timebomb in a 138. If you're in no rush, you're welcome to try it out this spring if you want to wait to buy one to see if you like it! I got the board because it was too good of a deal to pass up (I found it online, mispriced for $275!! They raised the price up to $375 right after I bought it!). Of course I haven't ridden it yet, and I'm anxious to see if I'll like it better than my Parks board (which I absolutely love)! But like I said...if you don't mind waiting to buy you one, you're welcome to test mine out!

Absolutely Brian!!! Im definitely going to take you up on that. My LF remedy 142 just feels long in the air, feels heavy on spins... I know it's not a drastic difference but I'd really like to get down to a 139 or 138. I am in between going back to Ronix one (was my first good board) or smaller remedy so I'm waitin as long as I can to decide!

I am basically only a cable rider, don't know the board sizing difference between boat and cable but I used to ride 2014 SS Shredtown 139 and i tought it was a perfect board for me until I tried to move size up for 2015 gone 143 cm somehow I felt that landings was more comfortable and stable, talking about spins it was a bit harder to spin but not much and u can get used to it. Now I have Ronix Kinetic ATR standard size so i guess its even bigger, about 144-145. I weight around 165. As I saw all the cable pro's are moving bigger boards maybe its because knees or something like that

I highly encourage you to stay on a bigger board for some reasons. One riding a bigger board is easier on your body and can keep you in the sport longer, two you get more pop on a bigger board and softer landings, and three with your weight and size i dont think a bigger board is a bad idea no offense. II ride a 139 most of the time, but when I wanna go big i ride a 142. I am 5'8 and 130lbs. All in all it comes down to personnal preference, but a bigger board doesn't hurt in the long run. Enjoy your ride!

do you think a humanoid cable 141 board would be too big from someone that weighs 135? the Langfield board only comes in 141 and 143 but it looks likes its gonna be too sick to pass up.

Not at all. Like I said I weigh 130lbs and ride a 142cm. Not much of a difference, slightly slower. But not that big of a deal.

I am about 160 pounds and I ride a 138. I like the smaller then recommended boards because they are lighter and give me more pop but they also make it easier to spin the board for tricks. Most of the pros ride smaller boards because they are easier to do tricks with. The advantage of a bigger board is that it provides more stability and it is easier to control a bigger board. I say that it all depends on your level of riding.

I'm 6-0 ft and when I rode a 138 I was 180lbs. I always felt the board got sucked up by the wake when I was hitting it and It felt on the slow side to me. The narrower width helps them edge side to side faster.

Not a bad thing, but I found with the 143 that I ride now, it sits higher and can handle the big wakes better. Also I havnt lost any tricks and I spin more then ever on the 143.

Since you are 5-10 the 138 might work for you, you can stand all the way out comfortably.
