I surf regular side and need to get a boat that will fit in my garage which is approximately 22'6". Am I better of looking at an Avalanche or a smaller Enzo. Right now I have an 04 VLX that I'm pretty happy with but I'm always looking for a wake with a bigger sweet spot.

Thx, Pete

I would definately try the new Supreme V226 against the Avy

I would say Avalanche too but 22'6" still might be tight with an Avalanche since the boat is 22' without the tongue and platform. I know the platform comes off and the tongue swings but I would measure good first.

My first thought would be the Tige 22Ve or 22V if you are looking at used, but 22'6" would be real close.

Take a look at the Tige Z1 - 21', 100" beam, removable platform. I'm 200#'s and can surf it on my CWB 4.9 with 0 ballast and it really builds a sweet wake with a little as 800# in the rear locker and the apx 350# bow sac. The Tige boats just dont need tons of weight, but will respond well to it when added. $.02

I'll see if I can round up some pics of both boats.

Thanks for all the info. I took another measurement of my garage and the length is exactly 23'2". The tower on the boat folde3d down will also will need to clear a 7' garage door. The 04 VLX wake is pretty good but I'd like something that's longer on the port side since I ride regular. Also, I have to load the crap out of the VLX and it gets a little hairy when the lake is rough.

Is the goofy better on the VLX like the LSV or is it about the same. Looks like the wave is quite abit longer than my 04 VLX.

pete all your problems will be solved with the new vlx. we were amazed at how little weight it took to get a great wave. the other wierd thing was tho boat really didnt list untill you started to go. wich will make those ruff days very nice. for more info and pics do a search for the 09 vlx review. i put a ton more info and pictures up. the topic is both here and on the malibu crew.

Hey John:

Thanks for all the info. Now I just need to sell my 04 VLX. Would you say that the goofy and port wake are comparable on the 09 VLX or is the goofy noticeably better like on the older VLX's.
Old     (liljohn)      Join Date: May 2007       10-01-2008, 9:54 AM Reply
hey pete the goofy side was better by nature but you ride the regular wave and realize your in heaven.. all i can say is you have to do your self the favor and at least demo it with a 750 sac. the pocket was an easy 10-12 feet long and very meaty. it wasent real vertical it had a nice long ramp to it that was solid. i was so impressed that yes my boat will be on the market soon and its only an 07.

Looks like I'll have to demo a few boats and see what works best for me. Would like to stick with a Malibu but may also consider the Avalanche, Supreme and Tige. I just want whichever boat gives me the best port side wake since basically all we do is wakesurf due to age and injuries. Selling the current boat isn't going to be easy though in this environment.

is 22'6" straight back from the door? Is it a two car garage? If so are you planning on having boat + car in there?

at $66 grand loaded to the max with the new 408hp pcm motor,i would put the wakecraft zr6 up against all of um..

its the only 22 foot v drive boat advertising a really good contest quality wave on both sides of the boat with just a push of a button

'09 VLX, Malibu hit an absolute HOMERUN with this boat as far as surfwakes go, both regular and goofey. In my opinion, the regular wake is GREAT, the goofey is RIDICULOUSLY nice...But that's like saying Tiger's mid to short game is his strength...he can still out drive 99% of PGA golfer's off the box. You cannot go wrong with this boat. Check out liljohn's thread from a few weeks back.

Now Please someone get all fired up because I ride for CENTURION and said how I really feel that the avy is the best boat 22'6 for wakesurfing. This is seriously my honest opinion the wake behind this boat is amazing. (EITHER SIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

ICE-a,

I read liljohn's review of the '09 VLX, but I wasn't thrilled with the pictures he posted. Have you surfed it? Were his photo's not representative of that '09 VLX.

These pictures are from that thread. On the darkside picture they are driving a circle and that quite frankly isn't doable for many folks. On the regular side wake, it looks like there is no lip towards the front.

Does liljohn have any other pictures?

The distance from the backwall to the garage door is 23'2". It's a 3 car garage so width is no problem. This decision is getting harder then choosing a wife.

Surfdad-

yes I have surfed the goofey side of the '09 VLX and thought it was great. Below, I included my comments from liljohn's previous thread.

As far as driving a circle or half-circle...We drove straight the entire time, in fact, when I was surfing, the driver had to turn hard to the left for about 8-10 seconds and I still rode it just fine, it obviously got a bit dirty, but the pocket was still there, laughable if I tried to do that with my 21v. The lip was fine on the darkside and pocket was nice.

all-

Keep in mind that I am speaking from a 265lb. point of view (damn Samoan genes), and KNOW that there are plenty of surfwakes out there that are just fine for the 'under 225 club', but again, I was blown away how nice this wake was considering we didn't have to load it with a ton of xtra weight.

Below are my comments from lil john's previous post from a few weeks back.

liljohn- GREAT review, especially the surf review...I second the 'Holy Crap Batman'-

We just went to the lake yesterday with a buddy from the local dealership and he had one of their brand new '09 VLX's- (http://www.idahowatersports.com/pre_owned_detail.asp?sid=0316601X9K15K2008J6I31I36 JPMQ2921R0&veh=951272&nv=y)

We went as 'guests' on the boat and to just surf, hang and chill and help get it dialed for future customers.

Anyways, beautiful boat and the surf wake?...Well, "Holy Crap Batman"! My wife and I also primarily surf & some of you may have seen and read previous posts of mine regarding my 21v surf wake and the challenges I have had getting it dialed in. To make a LONG story short, on our '05 21v I need at least 3750lbs ballast on one side of my boat (including the 1180 lbs gravity games in the middle locker) + a couple of peeps, 12.5 mph to have a wake big and long enough to 'hold/push' my 260lb. fat-arse and for me to play in.

On the VLX- We started with the stock ballast full(front, middle and starboard side tanks) and had 4 average size peeps in boat and me riding. At 10mph the wake wasn't HUGE per say, but it had enough to hold and push me without the rope just fine. I have never ridden behind another boat with just 'stock' ballast or that same amount of weight and have it push and hold me like this one (In case you are wondering- '05 Sanger 210, '08 Epic, '06 VLX, '02 SANTE 210, '07 Moomba GG XLV, my '05 21V, late 90's Maristar)

Now comes the fun part...We added to the stock ballast- 750lbs in rear locker, and 580lbs on seat behind driver, 10 mph. and "Holy Crap Batman!"...big, CLEAN (no rollover prop wash, clean all the way from the rear deck to where it curled which was about 15-20 ft back, alot like liljohns pic), VERY nice wake, wasn't too lippy upt top so you could break the board loose pretty easily, very forgiving wake. LOVED IT!

Other things that I liked-

1. Maliview
2. The new 360hp Monsoon
3. Handled just like what you would expect from a Malibu, absolute 'butta'...

Anyways, Malibu did a great job with the VLX!

And no, we forgot our camera so sorry, no pics .

Peter, if you angle the boat remove the swim step and only park one car in the garage, then you should be able to get a full 24 foot boat in there EASILY.

Drew - pictures please.

That's true, I never thought of that. Do you know if the tower would fold down to clear a 7' garage.

One final question, if the 24' Enzo would not fit would I be better off getting the 23' Enzo of the 22' Avalanche C4.

Thx

If the 24' Enzo would not fit would I be better off getting the SV23 Enzo or the 22 Avalanche C4. I located a left over 07 Enzo SV23 and a left over 08 Avalance C4.

Would the 08 C4 or Enzo SV23 wake on the port side be much better than the wake on my 04 VLX with 750lbs in the rear compartment, 350lbs in the ski locker, 400 lbs of lead, the intergated bow ballast and tbe floating wedge. The reason I am thinking of getting a new boat that my wife freaks out when I have that much weight in the boat and it is a bit hairy.

Thx for all your help.

PS. Would I have better luck getting the Tribal Tower or the Evolution Tower under a 7' garage door.

surfdad I have a ton more pictures. keep in mind that when we did this review one of the goals was to have no exposed ballast. and i will admit that my pictures dont do it any justice. If you want more let me know. beyond that go ride it call your dealer and see for your self. you will be amazed at that boat with no more tha a 750 in the locker.
Old    surfdad            10-02-2008, 3:17 PM Reply
Hey liljohn, can you post up some additional surf pictures, if it's not too much trouble? I'm with you, I hate exposed ballast if I can't tuck it under seats or hatches, I don't do it. So, I'm really only interested in the surf wake with all the ballast tucked away.

I'd love to see anything that shows the lip up towards the spine...from the pictures it looks rounded and I think Ice-a indicated that was the case with the foregiveness comment, but I may have misinterrupted that. Also, I'd love to see the darkside wake, driving a straight line and again no exposed ballast.

'Bu makes a great boat, I'd love to see more of the surf pics on this '09.

Thanks!

Peter, I would bet that the tower would fold down far enough to clear the garage door, but that is something I'd recommend you measure at the dealership. I have a Tige 22v that is angled in my two car garage with no problem length wise. The clearance of the Phat Budde tower when folded down, however, is mere millimeters.

In our group we have a 2008 X2, 2007 Silver Aniversary VLX, and a 2008 Centurion Falcon (same hull as the Enzo 216)

We allways wind up surfing behind the Falcon, it responds the best to weight. PORT SIDE... When we set up for the goof its the X2

With about 1400 lbs, you get a fabulous wake with just a driver and a surfer
Old     (sailing216)      Join Date: Oct 2007       10-03-2008, 5:05 AM Reply
Your main problem will be that 7' door. I have the same dimensions for my garage and it's too close to call and removing the deck and lowering the tower sounds like a pain so I went storage route.

Height of the windsheild is what's going to be your problem. I would think a Malibu with lower freeboard would sit the lowest on the trailer. The Falcon also sits lower than the Avalanche. Different price points so up to you. I'm almost positive my Avy won't clear my 7' exactly door, but it's really too close to call and I'm not going to mess with letting air out of the tires and such.

Take your measuring tape with you on your quest. FYI, it's about $3k to change from a 7' to 8' door (whole project cost).

I just posted a pick of regular side on my Avy with switchblade and all the ballast under the seats. 2 bags and 4 hours of extending the wiring and I have 2000lbs ballast under my port seats. Take a look at the very bottom. Again, with switchblade, you don't have to have the goofy side exact as the blade will clean up the face and top engaged at 2. If you just surfed regular, then Enzo all the way. If you wakeboard and want to surf both sides, then Avy.

I just brought my boat to the house and it would fit at 6'11". Word of the wise, I measured a different Avy at the dealer and it was higher on the trailer at 7'2"

waterdog,
you don't really call that wakesurfing on both sides do you. Looks like the only way into the lockers is to open the whole cover. Is that right? Tough to do with water in the lockers I would think. I also didn't like the battery in the port locker when I saw it a while ago, did they change it?

good eye dennish, the new surf edition wakecraft has the sub woofer under the driver dash board, batteries under port dash board storage.both lockers plumbed with newly designed enzo sacs with the fittings on top of the sac rather than on the sides and bottom.transom reinforced stock from the factory to be ready for the blade
lockers easily accessible thru the hatches just like on all boats, the automatic hatch lift is just an added advantage to get to your hardware if needed
loaded retails for 69k
20k less than all the others
completely custom graphics, colors, all gel coated in the clear,no cheap stickers hangin off this boat
