Started to get sick of the Sequoia. There were things that really drove me nuts on that vehicle.

1. The cruise control is awful. If you want to accelerate or decelerate using the steering wheel controls it only goes in 5mph increments.. makes absolutely no sense.
2. The cruise control had front sonar that you could not turn off. It would slow the car down when approaching a car in front of you.
3. the ipod/music/radio interface was horrible, as was the NAV
4. The stereo controls were hard to reach
5. MPG was god awful at 8.5 towing and 12 combined city/highyway

Anyway, after some discussing with Hate I decided to make the plung to an Ecoboost Super Crew. Have had it for about 5 weeks but just got the wheels/tires on it. Love the truck so far.. rides better, better ergonomics, better mpg (averaging 17.8 combined right now).... just overall I like it much better.

Nice looking truck! Love the Bed cover/Roof rack. Lose the "LEER" logos and the dealer plaque on the tailgate, makes it look to busy. Just a pet peeve of mine. I debadge my vehicles as much as possible, especially badges that it didnt come from the factory with!

Nope, I didn't get it from Hate, just consulted him a little on it. Picked it up in Indiana actually, was a dealer demo. Adam, I agree, will remove the Leer logo and dealer logos.

I love my ecoboost, make sure you get the tires calibrated at the dealership, its going to throw off your mpg and speedo, i also added the 4" catback heartthrob exhaust and the injen intake.
Old     (srock)      Join Date: Mar 2002       09-15-2011, 6:41 AM Reply
At 85,000 my 2008 Sequoia has been problem free. Nothing but oil and and a set of tires. Average MPG 15-16 with 10-11 towing at 75MPH and I have a heavy foot. My cruise does not function like yours but like every other vehicle I have ever drove.

I will say the navigation and nanny controls suck. I also don't use the third row seat but twice a year and it kills the cargo space. Other than that the reliability and powertrain are outstanding.
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-15-2011, 6:58 AM Reply
Tim, I had no issues with reliability at all, the motor and transmission were very smooth. There were just a lot of small things that started to get to me and plus, it gave me an excuse to get a new rig. I had the 22's on my Sequoia (the TDR or whatever they call them) and maybe that had something to do with the MPG. I tried hyper miling it on a road trip once and did get 15.5mpg but I had to really really try to get that. When I pulled the boat to brostock it was 8.5 with the 10% ethanol gas (which is everywhere in IL) and 9.5 with the ethanol free stuff down south.

The third row had plenty of room and the automatic seat backs were nice. Anyway, I am sure the Toyota would have ran easily into the 100k mile range.

Steve, are you worried about the catback and intake voiding your warranty? Did you talk to your dealer? Did they install it?

I see the KU logo on the front, you live in KS?

Also, 17MPG is pretty good, do you know what you get when towing?
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-15-2011, 8:46 AM Reply
Nope, live in IL but went to KU. I haven't towed with it yet but I think with the new rims/tires I'll probably be around 16.5mpg is my guess.

Glad to see another ecoboost. I have had mine about 6 months now and 15,000 miles. Runs and tows great. You will love it! Just make sure you get past the 1,000 mile break-in before towing.

Ian, ive got a good friend that works at a dealership and he was able to talk to a ford service rep that over see's the service here in AZ he didnt see a problem with a Catback system because your not messing with the cats or sensors, the intake could be iffy but if you had any engine failure ford would have to prove it was caused do to the intake or exhaust, i installed everything myself. I think in the end it comes down to how cool your dealerships service is and who you know, in my case the mastertech at the dealership i bought mine from is a good friend of mine.

Nice! I've had my Ecoboost SuperCrew for about 5 months now.. 5k miles on it. (about 500-600 of those towing). Tows like a dream.. The low end torque is just awesome. just fyi I've been seeing ~ 10.5mpg towing. (average 17mpg mixed unloaded).

For best results fill up with premium when towing, when unloaded 87 is fine.. and before anyone bashes me, yes this is directly from fords mouth. even in the owners manual. I am not just making it up.

It is a Carriage Works grill. I think I got it off of AutoAnything, can't remember.
Old     (timmyb)      Join Date: Apr 2007       09-19-2011, 9:36 AM Reply
Nick, do you notice a power difference at all with premium? Just wondering how smart Ford's computers are and if they bump up the timing at all if it senses premium fuel (that would be nice). 10.5 towing is pretty good for a gas engine truck IMO.
Old     (quik876)      Join Date: Mar 2010       09-19-2011, 10:08 AM Reply
Is that a 6cyl or 8cyl? I'm on the fence about either a Toyota or F150 (plan on buyin one soon), tryin' to nail down the details of what exactly I want in the truck 'stead of goin' full on bells n' whistles on it w/either companies package deals. Heard the 150's pull pretty well with the Ecoboost even at the 6cyl models. not sure how much truth is to it.

If it is an F150 with an Ecoboost then it is a 3.5L 6cyl Turbo.

Ford now offers 4 engines in the f150s
3.7L V6 - 302hp @ 6500rpm, 278 ft/lbs @ 4000rpm
3.5L twin turbo V6 ecoboost - 365hp @ 5000rpm, 420 ft/lbs @ 2500rpm (the most of any gas engine at that engine speed, makes this a towing beast)
5.0L V8 - 360hp @ 5500rpm, 380 ft/lbs @ 4250rpm
6.2L V8 - 411hp @ 5500rpm, 434 ft/lbs @ 4500rpm

that truck looks sick. Ford really needs to offer an Excursion version, exactly like that with an interior versus a bed in back.

IMO.

Oh boy. Might be a Ford guy soon. Just went and drove an Ecoboost F-150. The power is awesome, very diesel like. Up here at 5800', the difference between this and my Chevy 5.3 is drastic. The interior is my new favorite too. And best of all, my wife LOVED it. I change vehicles more often than my socks, and this is the first time she has ever encouraged a purchase.

The Excursion was based off of the Super Duty platform and the Expedition was the F150 platform. They still make the Expedition so you are fully covered there. Not sure if it comes with Ecoboost though.
Old     (wakereviews)      Join Date: Sep 2006       09-20-2011, 7:59 AM Reply
Yeah, but the current expedition is god awful... IMHO it is so far away from the rest of the full sized SUV market. It is soooo long overdue for an overhaul. If they did build a new Expedition with the F150 looks and Ecoboost, I would have probably bought that.

The deal is done. Platinum was a little rich for my blood. But I got a smoking deal on this FX4. Black leather, tow package, luxury package, ecoboost. I pulled a new X-45 with it at work this morning and it did great!

I just bought in Ecoboost too. I love it. Much better than the Chevy's I have owned and I generally liked the Chevy's. It is the Lariat model w/ the tow package. I have yet to tow with it but I love driving it.

Hey guys, sorry to include a Non Eco boost, but Im just so happy with my 2011 5.0. I bought it about three months ago with some dought in my mind of its towing capabilities. I was surprisingly happy when I hooked up my Tige 24V and it just rolled on. I could feel the weight behind me, but it had plenty of power on demand. Im kicking myself for not getting a 4X4, but since I blew up my 2006 6.0 S/D, I didnt have much time to really shop. I was more desperate, but I am totaly happy. Sorry for the bad picture, but it wasnt ment for this shot.

I think Alan's wheels are standard 17" FX4 Ford Wheels - OEM.

Also Im gettin about 14 mpg with the boat. But its 55 speed limit the whole way to the river.

Since this appears to be the "unofficial" Ecoboost thread, I thought I'd post up some pics of one I found over on F150forums. This is not my truck, but it's so sick I had to share.

I love the way this guy painted his hood insert flat black.

God I love these new F150's. I keep looking at the black crew cab that Hate has in Inventory. It is the same truck as the one he has I think. I am not sure if I like all white or all Black better.

Hate, you don't need a year long test driver on one of those trucks do you? I would be more then happy to volunteer my services.

I gotta sell my 335i. I lowered the price to a rediculous level and I'm finally starting to get some hits.

If it sells, I will either get an F150 (what I want), or Grand Cherokee (what my wife wants for me).

Either way, I need a secondary tow vehicle that works as a daily driver and has more utility that my little sedan.

I would love to buy one of the those F150's with the Ecoboost- My boss has a platinum. I bet it would tow my X2 really well. However my wife keeps talking me out of it, I still have a 2000 F250, jacked up 4 in. that is almost in perfect condition, and more importantly paid for. I have a Jetta TDI as a daily driver, but man the ride and interior of those trucks is just awesome. I really miss the 09 platinum that I had.

You all have some great looking trucks.

Old     (alans)      Join Date: Aug 2005       11-09-2011, 2:33 PM Reply
Trust me, I have been thinking about it for the last 24 hours. It would look really good.

Still loving my EcoBoost. Been traveling a bunch, so she has been living at the airport with less than 500 miles. Been towing boats to our indoor storage unit. At half throttle, pulling an X-45, it crushed my coworker's GM 6.0 who was trying to race.

If this thing is reliable, I think it just made the idea of a 1/2 Ton diesel obsolete.

Alan, if you ever do want to matte black the hood I'd do vinyl so down the road if need be you can remove it.

Whats the highway mileage I can expect on a 2011/2012 f150 4x4 eco boost. I drive ~50,000 miles a year for work, 90% highway.
Old     (skyski1)      Join Date: Jan 2008       11-13-2011, 8:08 AM Reply
What about the idea that the little engine has to work so hard to create that kind of power that the internals will wear out long before the big V8? That is just my theory, but it makes sense. I saw the video where Ford abused the engine beyond what any of us would ever do and it still ran fine, but still. I am in the market for a new truck and I tend to keep a truck for 7-8 years, so the long term durability is a concern.

smity 1258, i am in pgh pa, lots of hills and cover all of wv. in sales for a dental company. I average about 65k a year and I bought an f150 eco with the tow package in 4x4. I just turned 7k in about 5 weeks. I am getting aprox 18 in stop and go semi highway driving. And just got 22 on my way to my boat dealer today (aprox 250miles ) round trip. Its really good with a tail wind, but you will loose 3mpg with a head wind. not the most aerodynamic, but i love mine

there was a small thought in my head to sell the wifes 2010 4runner get her a van, and sell my 2011 Optima SX turbo and get this, however I was really hoping 25mpg could be had on a normal basis highway driving. When I sold my 08 Magnum AWD, I was super nervous about getting the kia, but getting 32mpg has been great, and the car is actually pretty good, my only complaint (my fault) is that the SX suspension is rough when driving on old roads. So it appears that I will stick to my plan of the 27MPG 2012 300s AWD. I just loved the way my magnum rode, and the new 300 has that same smooth feel. Im sure the f150 is a smooth ride as well, but 22mpg on a good day with the right wind wont cut it for me anymore.

in order to hit 25 mpg, you would have to be in the middle of the country with no hills at all, and be 10 mph below everyone around you. lol good luck

We just took the plunge too.. Nothing fancy other than stock. We'll be getting the running boards, tonneau cover, and some aftermarket stereo stuff done later this week or next week.

Got my 2011 F150 Eco Boost 4X4 off road a few months ago, had to go 600miles to pick up a new 23 MB B52, ran 80 82mph all the way up and our Avg was 17, after towing back around 75mph (up hill also, this thing can pull) our Avg dropped to 13 for the trip.
