Pulled the boat out of storage to get her ready for summer. Power to all accessories..except the gauges. It will not turn on any of the gauges nor start. I am thinking ignition is bad. I looked at the fuses, all ok. I looked for loose wires, all tight. Blower, horn, stereo, heater, ballast, all work.
Thoughts?

neutral safety switch?

Second on the neutral safety switch on throttle position, also try diff battery and what is your battery at?

My truck batteries were at 12.4 and wouldn't turn it over even with a jump. My old boat had a big red button style breaker in the engine compartement that if popped wouldn't start motor, new boat has the same thing but under the observers compartment under windshield. If it's easy enough get under the dash with a jumper wire and see if you can jump the ign hot to the the start and if that works then you could be correct about ignition switch.

Also if you have a remote starting solenoid (Ford style) in engine compartment you can test jump that too.

Hard to diagnose without ruling other stuff out. Could be bad starter or starter solenoid depending on your motor as well.

Checked to make sure in neutral, and checked the safety switch and all connections. I bought a new ignition today and will install tomorrow to see if that is the culprit.

Does it use the MDC or medallion gauges? They are notorious for freezing cracking and leaking then becoming too corroded to function.

Switched out the ignition switch, not the problem. Traced all the wires looking for something loose, nothing. Went and scoured the engine compartment looking for a loose harness, nothing. Took one last look at the battery bank and found the engine negative cable came off and slipped behind the battery bank. With all the other wires on the two batteries, I didn't notice it was off. Put it on, tightened the cable, and whamo the engine fired right up.

I've recurringly encountered this problem of battery wires coming loose. It's now one of my annual service items - to check and tighten the cables.

Glad it worked out. I had a similar condition on my old boat where they corroded inside the terminal. No visible corrosion then used jumper cable from battery to starter and it worked, new ends for the cables and problem solved. Always something simple but not necessarily easy

marine terminals typically have the wing nut that look like you can tighten with your hand. PSA: you will not get it tight enough. either use pliers on the wing nuts or go to a different style nut you can tighten with a socket and wrench.
