Im wanting to participate in a local rail jam. its nothing amazing, just a fun small jam, but ive never really rode rails before. Any tips or advice on how to prepare myself for it, or does anyone have experience with them?

Depends on the set up. Real hand rails are not easy on a snowboard.

I would find a local mtn with a terrain park to try rails first.

There's no friction or directional control when sliding a rail. You can't turn. Whatever trajectory you ollie or take off with will determine your path. Try a 50/50 slide first. Then board slides and lip slides. Speed is your friend. If there is enough time to get speed where you're basically jumping and the board just happens to touch part of the rail during your jump that's the best way to stay under control, assuming you're already comfortable hitting kickers.
