$40,000 for a boat with 100hrs? What am I missing?
Old     (rodltg2)      Join Date: Oct 2005       09-10-2008, 10:57 AM Reply
well its 2 years old and has the volvo engine and the loud exhaust. the new ones are much more desirable.

based on laoction ( dickinson, Tx) probably run in brackish or salt water as well.

also, there may be something with this boat.

Why does the engine have 70hrs on it, and the boat has 110 hrs.?

Why does it have a new oil pan from Volvo at 70hrs?

I'd need some clarification on what the story is there. Is this a replacement motor?

Why is the warranty up already?

Yeah sideswipe would kill it for me.

Are the Volvo powerd Epic's worth less than the
new motor's that Epic's come with?
I forgot what motors come with the New Epic's but I think they were having problems with the Volvo's blowing up or melting down due to lack of oil. I could be wrong but thats what I heard.

That being said If was in the market for a new boat I would take a serious look them.

Their website says the new ones come with the 8.1 Mercury Mercruiser
Old     (highrock)      Join Date: Apr 2008       09-11-2008, 7:17 AM Reply
The new ones do have the Mercury 8.1. When talking with the sales rep from epic they did have some problems with the volvos and thats why the company never really took off. The new boats are sick though with all 4000 lbs. of ballast and the boat only weights 3200 lbs dry, I dont think there is a better core wake boat out there.

X-star is 4250 and I thought the 40th anniv. came with 3K worth of ballast...

"$40,000 for a boat with 100hrs? What am I missing?"

I don't even understand the question?

The boat posted in the Ebay auction above is $42,900, that would put it at about 25-30% or less for that year. So, since your good at posting Ebay auctions, fire up the X Star's for sale, and do that math as well, and you'll see a trend. 20% drops off a new boats' value the minute you say "I do." Drive it around for another 2 years and a few more % points drops off. Xstars for sale on Ebay, are right in line per value of retail with this Epic. And welcome to the world of boat ownership. Their not investments, they're luxury items that if bought "used" hold value far more than buying new. That goes for new cars as well.

Math aside, the economy sucks ass. Deals are everywhere, for everything 24-7. My pool guy wanted 75K two years ago for the same pool he just quoted me for 35K. Go figure....

What that goes for new cars too?!

Ok, for you people who are 17, dumb to the world and need a little help I offer a comparison. Would you rather buy a ZUNE or an Ipod if the price and capacity were the same(inflated)

The public has spoken, max bids on the auction is a little over 20k. How is that for holding the value. For the suckers who got the Edsel on water I feel bad for you.

James LOL @ you, as a guy that has a Nautique 226 in his profile pick calling the Epic a edsel
I find that pretty funny.

This is the same boat that was selling for 36k last year...

Why is it an Edsel on water?

James is just bitter because Epic's are great for wakeboarding and his boat is good at somethings and great at nothing.

I'm pretty sure this is a preproduction boat that was sold as a demo.

The reason for 70 hrs on the engine and 110 on the boat is because Volvo replaced the engine. The first Volvo engines used had oil starvation problems due to the placement of the oil pan. Epic now uses the Mercury 8.1L

I think that's a great deal on the boat. It looks pretty clean to me. It will still create a massive wake.

Yeah what the fck James why are you such a hater? Im almost 17 and I'm pretty sure I'm not dumb to the world, maybe a little teenage minded but definitely not dumb to the world. I think you may be a little dumb to the world, especially at 45 ragging on 17 year olds and a boat that throws a sicker wake then yours and calling it an edsel? does that make yourself feel better? I sure hope it does.

Maybe he just had a bad day at work or something, or the wife kicked him out of his house, i hate when that happens to me

Twitch, since you are 17 you do not own a boat. Ask your dad about the loan and boat payment. Also, I was not bagging on you anyway. The boat has very little resale value since it is up against more proven models that are at the same price point. Consumers will not pay for a nonproven boat at the same price as a proven MC, Nauti, or Bu.

People that know what they are doing probably will.
Old     (bjeremi)      Join Date: Mar 2006       09-12-2008, 4:14 AM Reply
I think the boat is awsome and for that price would be hard to find a better wakeboard boat. Like a stated before though you would really want a louda$$ boat to be able to put up with the sideswipe.

everyone has to start somewhere James. Malibu hasnt been in the game nearly as longs as CC and MC and they have made quite a name for themselves now. It will just take time, once more and more people get in the boat and actually ride it and drive it, Epic will definatley start taking off.
Old     (texasmasterc)      Join Date: Sep 2002       09-12-2008, 8:52 AM Reply
They also didn't start offering boats with similar features that are not unique for the same price point. That is an important fact to take into account. Yes we all start somewhere but no one starts at the top immediately.

And yes twitch, the people have spoken and the resale for the boat is 22k. look at this comparable boat...2 feet shorter double the hours and selling at 25k with 4 days on the auction.

james , just because the bidding is up to that doesnt mean a thing. Plenty of high dollar boats on ebay wih low to no bids. Not exaclty boat buying season.

I love it when people use the current bid on ebay as the current market value. When we're selling specialty cars on there people do the same crap. "Their on Ebay right now for 80k" yes well the reserve isn't even met yet.

Batomobiles? What are you effin 12? Seems the youngsters owned your ass on this thread. Well done ole boy, nice work, not your best flameout, but I'd put it right up there. Happy Friday. Almost time to ride.

If you are basing market value on the typical ebay high bid in a market flooded with product, you are going to be dis-appointed.

Real world resale numbers, while being soft, are no where near that low.

Thant Epic should bring 35 K easy, and the VLX will get in the upper 30's to low 40's.

There is too much clean, available inventory at local dealer lots to make buying a boat on ebay a bargain today..hence the low bids. Why buy a 2 year old Malibu on Ebay across the country when a local Craigslist or Trader search will find comparable boats right in your own backyard.

Question guys, say the motor is shot, but you can pick it up for 25k and put a new mercruiser 8.1 in it for say 10k, aren't you still getting the SAME boat that would be new at a dealer? I think it is a heck of a deal, too bad I'm poor.

Hey Darren... they are stomping on my turf...

I guess what it comes down to... is I knew about all of the problems with some of the Volvo's and Resin Infusion issues amongst some other minor issues...

I posted them... and then I got lit up... accused of bashing etc...

Now that it is reality... no one apologizes to me...

It really makes me sad.

Supposedly... Stef Tor has the best Epic ever built!!!

Heard that the original prototype has been seen at her place... that thing was BULLETPROOF!!!
