Hey Chris,
The Composite X is a very light and fast board. The new model has a future fin box in it so you can go from 2 3/8" fins up to 4" or more. I am assuming that you are talking about the 4.5 version. It is a hybrid cross between a skim style board and a surf style board with the small fins. It would be more surf style with the bigger fins. It is capable of surf style airs and also shuvits and skim style tricks.

The 5.0 is a more surf style board. Depending on your weight and wake it can be extremely fast. I ride a 5.0 and I weigh 270#. Alot depends on your wake and weight.

i weigh 170-80 and i have pretty good surf wake out of my 06' mobius LSV with over 1 k of surf ballast...... is the 5.0 going to be a better fit for that faster more floaty surf style or should i go with the other 4.5?

Your weight would be fine on either board. The 4.5 would be more responsive than the 5.0. Both boards are light. The 4.5 with the stock 3.5" sidebite fins would be a surfy type board. The other option would be a more custom board like the Bullet or F18 both are custom sized for you from 4' to 6' if desired. Let me know if I can provide any more help.
