Howdy...some old Chico college buds and I are headed up to Shasta this weekend. We'll be on a houseboat out in Little Backbone...riding behind a Sanger V210. Come by and say hi if you're in the neighborhood. Can't wait to grab some Shasta glass...Sangeria

Wheres little backbone at, we are getting a houseboat out of Silverthorn probably docking somewhere in between the Pit and the Squaw arms of the lake. Just look for the two malibus and a bright red centurion thats me. We have some guys on our boat that could probably ride outlaw/advanced mens wakeboarding division so we will put on a good show if you see us

I believe it is right at 70, rode yesterday without the upper and it was great. The following weekend should be good, water should be warmer since this week is so hot

Good to hear Steve. You gonna be around Memorial weekend?
Old     (jetskiprosx)      Join Date: Aug 2004       05-15-2007, 2:37 PM Reply
I just got back. The lowest water temp we saw was 65 and highest was 69. The average water temp was 67-68 and the air was in the low 80's. No need for wet suits with temps like those! On Friday the ENTIRE lake was GLASS!!! I had never seen that much nice water on Shasta, it was amazing!Upload

We are going on our 1st houseboat trip in July w/ our friends. Can you guys recommend a good place to put the houseboat. We are bringing out SAN 210, and would like to get some good riding in. We have the houseboat thru Shasta Marina. This will be our 1st trip to Shasta. By the photos posted, we will not be disappointed. Looks like a lot of good water to be had by all. Thanks for any input you guys have.

I just got back from Shasta too, was there for 5 nights! It was awesome, warm weather, no need for a wet suit, and such nice water the whole time.

Agent DDD. Shasta Marina is on the Sacramento Arm, in the Obrien inlet. I have had good luck in the Obrien inlet. Start there.

Craig's right Obrien inlet is good, also the arm across from Sugarloaf marina is a decent spot also

Daniel I will be around for Memorial Day, but will probably try to avoid the crowds. Let me know where you are camping or houseboating, maybe we can meet up

DDD- I have always had good coves to hide in up the Squaw Arm and there is plenty of good water in the back canyon. Mc Cloud is okay if you go way up in it and the Sac Arm is pretty messy with all of the red clay on the beaches, makes a big mess in your houseboat.

You will understand what I mean when I say hide in when the wind comes up.

Thanks CAR and Craig. I will relay that information to Tack so we can plot out our course. We are looking forward to our trip. Looks like a lot of fun. If you are up there the week of July 19th thru the 26th, look for the blue/green 210 w/ blue tower, that will be us. Thanks again- much appreciated.

sangeria, thanks I was wondering what that area was called. I have been launching there by the dam after work and riding those spots a lot.

If you go into Little Backbone make sure to take the time to hike up to the waterfall up at the end. It's small, but kinda cool to check out.

Looks like the water level peaked already back on Mar.30th and it has dropped 11 feet since then ? Not a good sign for later in the year.

I'm curious if they will have the memorial day party at slaughterhouse or ski island. Ski island might actually be good this year

I'm taking my first trip to Shasta this weekend. I'll be on a houseboat from Antlers. Where's the spot to be once we leave the marina?
Old     (norcal_wakejunky)      Join Date: Oct 2006       05-21-2007, 3:34 PM Reply
head south with your houseboat, unfortunately its going to be a long haul because you are at the northern most marina. When you can't head directly south anymore you have hit the main body and you want to go to slaughterhouse island which is close to where the sacramento arm and the main body of the lake connects. The houseboat will provide a map and just remember slaughterhouse island or ski island. That is if you want to party and be part of the whole memorial day weekend craze on shasta lake

Hey Steve, sounds good. I think that's where we'll end up going. About how long of a trek is it to those islands?

I just took a trip to the McCloud arm Saturday to Check out my campsite I have at the end of June. The water level is lower now than it was at the end of July last year. With that being said there is still plenty of water in the lake, just more shoreline to deal with. Try googling Shasta dam water level and monitor the daily. drop at the dam.

The real problem will probably be for People who have August or September trips planned.

Water is definitely low this year, compared to the last two but nothing to really worry about. Kevin you might see my red avalanche up there on Saturday just because I think that area will have the best water. J Cas thats going to be a decent trip I'm thinking close to 12 miles by boat and you figure houseboats go about 15mph or less.

FYI There is a forest fire up the McCloud arm. The firefighters are staging out of Hirtz bay. Big delays if your going to use that ramp or anything around there.

I'm leaving for Shasta right now. I'll be on the houseboat tomorrow morning at 10:00 am. I'll see you all up there.

Phaeton, that fire hasn't been put out yet? So you think people won't beable to launch or that it just will be very hectic and busy up at Hirtz Bay

Not sure it was on the news Wednesday. I have been busy getting ready for the weekend and have not paid attention so I don't know if it is out or not. We will be in Doe cove in the Obrien arm. Houseboat say's Chairtime on the side. Stop by and say hello if you see us. We will keep a lookout for fellow WakeWorlders.
