The trailer jack on the front of our trailer is very difficult to turn direction. It does not want to spin to change direction when moving the trailer. I tried lubing with marine greese on the gears under the top cap but that did not help with the change in direction. Any suggestions?

Thank you

Single axle trailer or tandem?
Old     (typhoon)      Join Date: Jul 2001       09-18-2009, 10:05 AM Reply
tandem which I realize is more difficult but the small wheel will just not change direction.

So it doesn't change direction even if it's up off the ground?

Mine is really tough to change direction if it's on the ground. I have to kick it pretty hard to make it move at all. And even if it is pointing in the right direction, moving the boat more than a few inches is about impossible for one guy.

Our old boat (same boat and trailer did not have that issue, but i might just have to live with it. just wondering if there was any fix or lube that would help?

I thought kicking it was just part of it.

we were having issues with the one on our trailer so we replaced the whole jack for a whopping $20. Might want to just look into doing that. $20 should be worth the aggravation it will save.

where did you find that for 20.00?

Ty: IMO the stock jack Fulton that came on my DHM trailer was pretty lame. IMO it's cheep but most of all it was not made for as much weight as we were using it for. It seems as most people that have the jack that is in the link above fail.
I switched out to the F2 jack Im super hapy with it. Under $100 it's a great upgrade.

Ty
extend the jack all the way out and put some white lithium grease on the smaller tube then crank it in and out a couple of times. The wheel should now be able to move with relative ease. We had the same problem on our moto trailer when one day my dad suggested this and Vawooola all better !!

If it doesn't spin/rotate when all the way down the shaft is probably bent and binding up.

so what was the verdict on if this would fit MC 08 trailer's with the $20 plate?

I had the same thing happen. I'm sure it was bent inside. I bought a new one Fulton at West Marine that bolted right on. I upgraded to the next higher weight rating too. Worth the money

West marine had the Fulton jack on sale 50% off a while back so i got a new on for $20.

Do to the design of the jack you need to keep something mind when trying to turn the wheel. To spin the wheel, spins the shaft threaded through the worm gears. So if the weight of the boat is on it, it is much harder to change the direction of the wheel because you are lifting or lowering the tongue ever so slightly when trying to turn the wheel. If lubed and not broken you might have a slightly easier time if you also spin the handle a bit so that the worm gear rotates with the direction you are trying to spin the wheel.

This thread introduced me to the Fulton F2 and, I too am interested in replacing my stock trailer jack with something more sturdy.

In this thread, it seems that there are some sincere fans of the Fulton F2.

However, in other places, there are some critics.

http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/014648.html

Does anybody here have any personal experience with the reliability (or not) of the Fulton F2, or can otherwise answer the critics in my link above?

I put a F2 on a tandem Centurion Enzo boat trailer. I will put one on any boat I own. I really like the idea that you can adjust the throw on the jack either higher or lower.

The crank also seems to raise or lower the boat easier than with the older style.

I bought the add on bracket and was able to screw it on without welding. Very solid.

That's good so far.

My trailer has a fixture welded to the left rail, and that fixture provides a 4 inch by 4 inch square panel of plate steel spaced out from the left rail by about three-fourths an inch, and on which the trailer jack is mounted (by a single bolt through the center ?!?!?)

Could I mount the F2 to that four inch by four inch square plate without having to get an F2 specific add-on? It looks to me like the F2 mounts with a square 4-bolt pattern. So again, does that pattern fit inside a 4 inch square?

No the bolt pattern did not line up and needed to buy the adapter which was about $24. Did have to drill 4 holes though.

The Fulton F2 is a great upgrade. The extra wheel and strength of the jack itself make it much easier to move. It's been flawless for 1 season now. Upload

The F2 is great -I have a DHM trailer and it did not fit the trailer adapter my previous jack was on, so I just clamped it right next to it with the U-bolts provided (a little ghetto), but the F2 is so smooth and easy to spin, now my girlfriend can use it.

Ran across this tongue wheel today. Notice that it has a scale in it so you can determine your tongue weight. Probably not necessary on a boat everytime you load it. But would be great on a camper or toyhauler.

jonathan I will check at work and see what mounting options are available for that jack. I know there are a few because I looked at picking one up but I am waiting to get test sample for free. I work for Cequent in the electrical department so I don't know much about the jacks.

It will not fit into a 4 inch by 4 inch square. comes with this bracket and u bolts stock. There are other brackets available but I think they are weld on and nothing that would work with what you have.

Thank you sir !!!

I'll continue to look for another way to mount an F2 on my trailer.

Ours is going into the dealer on Thursday. They are going to cut off the pad that is there now and weld on a new pad for the F2. We have some other dings and scrapes on the trailer so they are going to paint it to match at the same time.

No problem if I get some one up here from fulton I will ask them if there is any brackets or other options that I don't know about.

i have the boat mate trailer with the single bolt thru the middle.....where to get originalreplacement?
Old     (packrat)      Join Date: Mar 2005       10-08-2009, 4:12 PM Reply
Why cut off the old pad and have to repaint? Just buy the Fulton bracket and drill holes in the bracket and use the existing holes in the existing bracket.
Old     (big_b_21v)      Join Date: Oct 2006       10-08-2009, 7:15 PM Reply
The existing pad is only designed for a 3" x 3" hole pattern. The F2 has a 4" X 3" hole pattern. I guess that Fulton wanted to make the F2 universal for a 3" trailer frame or you can turn the plate 90 degrees and it will fit a 4" trailer frame. It does come with U-bolts but they sure didnt make it easy to upgrade from their old jacks to the new F2. The u-bolt is just a little to ghetto for me. I am having some other work done on the trailer and they are going to be painting anyway so it works for me.

Here's a little project I did on my '00 Mastercraft's trailer to retrofit a Fulton F2 onto the factory plate w/out welding:

http://garagemonkey.net/garage-monkey-photo-galleries/Jack-On-gallery.html

Works for me since I agree the U-bolts are ghetto.

Christian I made something similar for my F2 jack (haven't installed yet). It just bolts to the original jack mount then the F2 bolts to that.
