I'm wondering how difficult it is to remove the seat back in the rear of the boat? It's an 06 wakesetter. I need to get it recovered because the threads have gave out.

i dont recommend you do this. take it to a dealer.

what can happen is the backrest is designed to push itself into the side of the boat. if you havent noticed the backrest isnt entirely straight, the corners curve around so it pushes against the side of the boat. now if you pull it out, the two sides will spring back to being straight and your vinyl will stretch and when you go to put it back in you will have creases and stretch marks in your seat.

its not that hard to take out. it wont spring back to and become straight. the hardest part is getting to the bolts behind the seat side. I would say it should only take you 40min to an hour to get it out.

it will, i work at the malibu dealer over here in AUS, somehow the owner managed to tear up the vinyl pretty bad, so we had to remove the seat. unfortunately when we took it out it sprang back and stretched the vinyl. didnt matter cause it was getting a new interior anyway, but when the seat came back from the factory it had two ratchet blocks holding it in the original shape it would sit in the boat and detailed instructions on how to install it.

Thanks for the info, I guess I won't be doing it myself! Gotta love Malibu for building it so you have to take it to a dealer and get ripped off...not to mention using the cheapest thread they can find.

What? I've taken mine out more times then I can count! Okay maybe only about 5 times. Super easy and no it won't stretch or deform! There are lag bolts not screws that atach it to the frame on the engine compartment side and through the fiberglass on the sides! Not hard and a 30 minute job at best! Tackle it yourself!

Didnt realize Gary had posted he's a pro heck he's pulled my whole interior out 3 times! Super easy!

I pulled the back seat, had it recovered by an independent shop, and reinstalled it myself. No issues at all. Maybe I just got lucky? I ordered the vinyl from Malibu. Not skins, just rolls of material.
