pop-up ski pylon for v-drive?

Has anyone installed a pop-up ski pylon on a v-drive boat?
I have been looking, and have not found one available.
One that is removable would be ok, also.

My pylon, when not in use, can really be a ball-buster, if you know what I mean.

I am not really interested in a pylon that has to have straps, etc. just one that I can push down flush when not in use.

With a trip to the local engineers you could likely make it a removeable one so that it unscrews. I've seen a few of those around.

Can then just be chucked in a locker or you could make a bracket for it. ..

I'm not aware of an aftermarket unit but a few on here have done their own DIY setup over the years. Do a search of the forum and you should find them.

Malibu v-drives have a popup pylon. Maybe you could retrofit one into your own boat?

Mine just has a u-bolt around it and can be removed in about 90 seconds. i take it out and replace with my stripper pole all the time.

Additionally, I about never use the pylon for riding, just take it out if that is the case with you.

What boat do you have? Centurion has one.

It looks like Malibu, Cobalt, and Four Winns have pop-up or removable pylons, so maybe I can order one if it's a similar size.

Brian, I think mine is attached the same way, I have seen the U-bolt, I guess I need to look at it closer. Is there a cross-bolt that goes thru the pylon, or just the U-bolt?
Do you have to completely remove the U-bolt, or just loosen it?
What did you use for a stripper pole?

Yea, why don't you take some effort to look at YOURS closer before you go asking people random questions about what to do and/or their pylons?

I don't know if YOURS has a cross bolt, or if you need to loosen it or remove it.

I used a pole for the stipper pole, simply inserted in the same hole and tightened the U-bolt. Sure, I have pics. Lots! But I don't post pics of my girls on the internet.

A: Not that it's really any of your business, but since you asked: I don't have the relative luxury of having my boat in my garage, or yard...
My boat is presently about 968 miles away, a 4 state, 17 hour drive from where I live.
I'm just guessing here, but it might take me a bit more EFFORT to check MY boat, then YOU to clarify a few statements that YOU made.

It seems to me that the discussion was about ski pylons, I don't recall asking anything related to another subject.

I thought since YOU brought it up, and YOU said that it only took "about 90 seconds" to remove it, that you might recall if YOUR boat had a cross-bolt.
I also asked if, on YOUR boat, you had to completely remove the U-bolt, or just loosened it.
It seems to me that these would be a brief yes/no questions, which YOU still did not answer.

I wasn't sure that you could actually use a pole for a 'stipper' pole, I was thinking maybe some spaghetti noodles?
Who cares about such information like type, source, length, cost, diameter, etc.
And I wasn't really sure where you need to stick that thing, thanks for clarifying that!

I though your smaller Mastercraft could be possibly have the same pylon attachment as mine.

Here is one my buddy and I did on his Mastercraft. If you have access to a machine shop then it can be done relatively easy. Without one you'll have to pay someone a good chunk of change I'm sure.

Now that he has had this done for a few years, are you guys noticing any scraping along the side of the pylon?
It looks like the Malibu in the pics has a plastic ring around the base to prevent scratches.

Is there anything else you would do differently?

Do you remember the source / diameter of the aluminum pipe you used?

I have the aforementioned U-bolt around my pylon, so I would probably have to weld a cross brace instead of the U-bolt, because I think the U-bolt would compress the tube and/or interfere with the sliding bolt.

I'll ask Noel if he remembers what size pipe he used. I know he still had to turn the inside diameter of the pipe for it to clear. As far as the scraping there has been none that I can see. A good start would be to machine the tube to say .010" over the diameter of the pylon.

Sounds like will need to find a machine shop, I didn't realize you guys had to bore out the pipe.
