3/4 ton truck tire ideas

I have a stock 07 3/4 ton Duramax 4x4 that has the front end leveled out and am about to replace the tires. I want 285/75/16 and am looking for some suggestions.
I want something that will last but still have a semi aggresive look.
Any ideas?

I run Toyo Open Country, I run highway, gravel, mud snow and ice. They have been great, just put my second set on, they are quiet on the highway and good on the ice, but that's probably not an issue in Cali!

I think the best looking/wearing tires are the Toyo Open Country, but they're getting pretty $$$. Another great option is the Nitto Terra Grappler A/T. Discount Tire Direct has them for unger $200 and they're E rated.

I have the Toyo MT's in that size. I've had them on my 1 ton for 37000 miles and they've been great. They are fairly aggressive looking and drive pretty nice (not too loud either).

I just put Nitto Terragrappler AT 285/75/16's on my 2007.5 Duramax, love them! Only downside, I took a hit on my fuel mileage by going from the stock 245's, a full 1 mpg hit on the highway and at least that on the city. I had Open Country's too, they are a nice tire and I sold them with 45k on them and they still had some life left in them. I think the sidewall looks better on the Nitto on a 16" wheel.

I am running the new e-rated BFGoodrich KM2's and have around 25k on them. They will probably last another 10-15k as long as I continue to rotate them. They might be more aggressive then you want but you cant beat the look of them. I am running them on my dodge 3/4 ton 4x4 diesel for comparison.

Cooper Discoverer STT is a great looking tire also with a deep agressive tread. Ride is not too bad either.

Great, appreciate all the ideas. I had a set of Michelin LTX A/T on my old 97 Z71 that were the best set of tires I ever owned. But for a 3/4 ton they dont offer many choices.
I am really concerned about how long they will last. I friend of mine has the Terra Grapplers and likes them too. I will take a look at the Toyos and that website.

You want aggressive tires for highway and street driving??

I currently am running the cooper sst, but I had the Mickey Thompson ATZ's before. I had 55000 miles on them and I have had a lot of the aggressive tires that are out. These ATZ's are the best by far

Toyo owns Nitto (or the other way around) and the center tread pattern on the Open Country A/T's is the same as the Terra Grappler A/T's but the Nitto is a little cheaper.

Toyo Open Country - Also forgot to mention I got over 50,000 miles on my last set and still had tread left. I haul my trailer or boat with them and drive about 30% gravel for work, tough tire.

lots of guys on dieselplace.com raving about the bridgestone revo... my local shop also said they get incredible mileage out of them.

While your at it, check out the Micky Thompsons. Just replaced the Nitto Terra Grappler (did not last worth a crap - IMO ) with them. Too soon to tell how they will perform but they were recommended by two sets of friends.

I have Nitto Mud Grapplers. Best looking tire in my opinion, 10 ply which is nice but i have 17k on them and they are over halfway worn. Loud as hell too (which I like, some don't)

I have the toyo open country in 37's on my f-350 and have a bout 45,000 on the . they have about 5-10 k left on them. i also had good luck with the micky thompson atz. both good tires, but the load rating on the toyo are higher.

If you have stock wheels a 285 is to wide. It will work but the tire bubbles out from the wheel. It will not handle as good. A 265 is the lagest I would put on a stock rim.

If you go over to Dieselplace.com, you'll find 10 people who have 285's on stockers for every 1 that says they are a bad idea.

Not a bad idea but you will get better handling and wear out of a 265. I worked at Discount Tire for 7yrs. I have seen it all. If you are not concerned about wear and handling then put them on. It will definitely look cool. When a tire is that much wider than the wheel you need to run a much lower air pressure to get even wear. The low air pressure makes the vehicle not handle well. If you air them up so it drives good the tires will wear premature in the center. Plain and simple.

I'm thinking of going down from a 315 to a 285. But I have aftermarket wheels that I think are 10 inches wide. Would they be to wide for the 285's?

Again if it were me I would do a 305 Jeff. A 285 will be streched on to the wheel. With the same results as to big of tire but reverse.

I have 285's on a stock GM Wheel and no problems here. Jeff I would think you would be fine with the 10 inch wheel.

You all should go talk to some reputable tire companies. There is a reason they do it for a living. 95% of them know what will work best. You could even call the manufactures they will tell you the same thing. I delt with this verry thing every day. "Well Joe Shmoe the the accountant said it will work and he has them on his truck" I'm just telling you what will happen. I never said there would be problems or it was a bad idea. Just letting you know facts.

Yeah I don't want the tire to look all stretched out on the wheel. That look is not my favorite .
A 305 is approx a 33 inch tall tire right? I'm just looking at better mileage and less wear and tear on my truck . Also my 5th wheel sits at a funky angle while hooked up to my truck.

It's all preference. I have 285's on my Corvette with 17x11 wheels and they fit the wheel perfect, a 315 would look better but they look fine.

As far as airing down 285's on the truck tires - most people do anyway because 80psi SUCKS! I wouldn't leave them down at 60psi when hauling a heavy load but for everyday driving you'd probably be fine. Just fyi, the Nitto comes with a sticker right on it that says that you should put them on at least an 8" wide wheel as I recall and the GM stockers are 6.5" wide.

305 is the tire width not height. Yes most 305's end up being a 33

The Mickey Thompson is a cool looking tire. I wonder the price difference between those and the Nitto Terra Grappler.
Correct me if Im wrong Aaron, tire size works this way.
285/75/16 means 285 wide, the sidewall is 75% of 285 tall, and 16 is obviously the rim size.
I always adjust my air pressures for ride/load and always more in the front than the back.

Yes that is how the tire size works 285 mm from sidewall to sidewall (not tred width). 75 is side wall height. That is figured as 75% of the 285.
