I'm planning on getting the new slingshot Hooke but I found a good deal on the 2012 slingshot Hooke and I'm just wondering what are the differences in the two boards? I know on the 2013 they changed the inserts to the middle on the fast track but was it a big improvement? Did anyone have any issues with the 2012 fast track?
I believe that the fast track has been improved in 2013 once again. It is supposed to be stronger and bonded a little better to the wood core. They have also changed the wood core on the Hooke for 2013 so that the new wood is stronger around the fast track inserts and the board will not have quite as much flex as in the past. It is a more rigid board but still has great flex.
the hardware that connects bindings to fast track is different, and seem somewhat better. Smaller screw heads, which I don't know if they're better yet or not.
The difference in price is 210$ I only ride behind boat and want to go big so probably a little more flex is the flex notably different between the two?
I have not ridden the 2013 Hooke yet but I love the 2012 Hooke behind the boat. For that price difference I would go with the 2012. I think the improvement in the fast track system for 2012 should handle about everything a reasonable rider will dish out behind a boat. That being said there are some people that manage to break everything they come in contact with. If your that guy you might want to go with the 2013. Good luck with your new board.
