I've read acme 911 or 653 prop is best for a heavily weighted sanger. What do you guys run? Pros and cons of both? Also if anyone has either for sale I'll take it 😃

I had a 2007 V210. I switched to the 911 three years ago. I'll tell you what, it ran like a different boat. All the power you can imagine. I bought it because I am at 5280' elevation.

I run the 653. Waaaay more home shot when weighted and didn't lose much top end maybe 2 mph. I went that route over the 911 as that's what Acme recommended for surfing. Waves just as clean from one side to the other and she holds speed like a champ.

Well acme recommended the 525. Havnt even read anything on them lol

the 525 is slightly less aggressive, on the low-end, than the 911. They're very similar though.

I contacted ACME a few years back and they recommended that I run the 525. I have been using it for the past four years and I love the hole shot it provides. I only lost a few MPH on the top end. I run about 2200 lbs in my 2001 SangAir with no problems at all.

Probably dumb question, but why do Sanger V-drives run 3 bladed props?
Old     (boardjnky4)      Join Date: Dec 2011       04-23-2014, 8:10 PM Reply
Because 3 blade props are more efficient when using a 1:1 geared v drive.

And does anyone know the stock prop on a 2003 V230?

Well we are on the topic I have an 06 v215 and run the stock 515 (13x12)top speed 44 / rpm 4400. Now I dont want to lose top end speed while I do a lot of cruising but want more low end, I was wondering if I switched to the 525 (13x11.5). Since im only reving 4400 would the 525 rev higher with the lower pitch giving me similar top end with more bottom end. Any one have an experience with this set up or advice.

Are you really cruising at 44mph? Where are you going so fast? lol

You will lose top end on the 525 for sure. I went from stock to 525 on my Centurion Elite V (Which is also a merc package with a 1:1 walter v-drive) and I lost top-end.

Running 911 with 2200 lbs in my v210 it's a beast and high elevation lakes I still sack it out where my buddies are sputtering around. **** top end

My 2003 V230 came stock with an OJ 4 blade. I switched to the Acme 911, worked like a charm when fully loaded.

Brandon, I went from the 515 to the 911 and only lost 2 mph (20% change in pitch 5% change in speed). You would probably run faster with the 525 and its lower pitch than you do with the 515 because you would be closer to the optimum HP of your engine. 4400 RPM is too slow for maximum speed. That's about what RPM mine would max out at when I had the factory prop on it.
Also, if you have have the Bennett adjustable tab on yours you should trim the tab up to raise the bow some for maximum speed.

Thanks ya the 911 is a 10.5 pitch so I think i would be happy with the 525. I no 44 is fast but I really use my boat for everything, cruise, ski, wakeboard, surf and even barefoot. Was thinking could gain low end then keep top end just maybe rev 4800 instead of 4400.

I've talked extensively with Acme about prop changes as I'm at 6000' heavily weighted. I don't know which hull Sanger you're curious about, but I can tell you that on a V215 you will gain ~286RPMs for every inch of pitch you remove. To go from a 12" pitch prop to an 11.5" prop you will gain only ~143RPMs WOT bringing you from about 4400 to 4550RPMs. From my experimenting with a few props and taking extensive data, I'd venture to guess that you're top end would go from 44MPH to 43MPH and you'd notice only a marginal increase in holeshot. To put that into some perspective, at about 25MPH your engine speed would change from about 2500RPM to about 2600RPM. Your results may vary but would likely be similar if you have the V215 hull.

If I were you what I'd be wondering in your situation is why you're only getting 4400RPM WOT with your motor/hull. Is this figure loaded or unloaded? At sea level my '05 was running 44MPH at 5000RPM unloaded with the stock 12" prop. How's your engine compression?

On a related note I'm trying out the Acme 2083 today (9"!). I'm swapping that out for the 911 that's on there now. The 911 worked pretty well up here but I need a little more umph for loading the boat for wakeboarding. Going from sea level with a 12" prop to 6000' (which loses appx 60HP...) with the 911 (10.5") help my WOT constant at 5000RPM but dropped my speed from 44 to 39. If my calculations are correct going down to the 9" prop should make my hit my rev limiter and drop my speed further down to 34/35. I don't care about top end though - I want to slam people back in their seats when I accelerate We wakeboard and wakesurf on a very small lake so speed is of no concern to me. When I rarely bring my skiing/slaloming friends I can always throw on the stock or the 911.

I have a 2006 V215 with the 330hp black scorpion. We are at sea level and wakeboard 95% of the time. Acme recommended the 911 and it's been great for us. Weight is around 3000 lbs plus 3-4 people usually.

Thanks for reply and sorry to op for asking in this thread but may take some info from it. As for the 4400 rpm that is what a stock v215 should rev with the 515 from factory I'm pretty sure seen it in reviews and with other v215's.

I do have a 911 that is in the box, only mounted once. I put it on a Malibu response lxi, but it provided too much hole shot for the little ski boat. Since it is nearly new, $275 shipped would be fair. Email me if interested. Masachan72@gmail.com

Ok Sanger guys, folks who know sangers know they were designed for californias big lakes and delta all of which can get very rough, sangers cut right through the bumps without a rattle or pounding you senseless but here on WW there is the low freeboard comments like that is some big problem...so is the freeboard a problem?

We already know that wood is good.

My D215 is drier running in severe waves and 50 mph winds than my brother-in-law's Four Wynns Horizon bow rider. I have never taken on water wake surfing or in any storm. I have taken water over the bow with people in the bow when I get caught unprepared after a wake from a cruiser or an X45. No one has ever commented that the interior of the boat felt low, when they were in it.
On the buoy in a severe storm my hull takes on no more water than most of the bow riders and less than many as it handles the waves differently with it's mid engine.
From my experience, there is no issue with freeboard on the 215. I am an experienced boater and that may make some difference but I feel comfortable taking my kids out in the boat in a storm for entertainment. (Full disclosure: my wife does not like that). If I lost power in a storm then the freeboard might be more of an issue but with a sea anchor out it would not be different than on a buoy.

The 911 I have is sold. Thanks to all who responded.

I've never had a problem with low free board on the v210, it rolls about in a unique way and just seems to keep the rollers out. Very very good design on the hull

I should have specified that I was speaking to the Black Scorpion on the v215. This motor has a WOT spec of between 4800-5200RPMs. This is what your motor should run WOT with your normal load. If it's running below that, it is over propped and could be lugging the motor. Maybe 4400RPM is within Mercruiser's spec on the mag 350. I'm not sure.

On a semi-related note the Acme 2083 was pretty sweeeet today. Top end went from 39 with the 911 down to 35 with the 2083, but the holeshot was money and that's all I care about. I think I could rip the dock out if I attached to it and pulled. :

I am running the black scorpion and yes I agree 4400 is low but that is what it runs with the factory 515 prop. That is why I want to try the 525 and see if I can gain in all areas and just rev higher wot.

I'd imagine you would be better off with the 525 overall. I'd say just don't expect a night and day difference after plopping down ~$400 for a prop. If you're ok with that, the 525 would definitely be better for you.

To the OP - I'm assuming you're not at high elevation. If that's the case I'd say unless you're wanting to squeeze every MPH at the top end, you'd be very happy with the 911. The 653 would help over stock, but if you really are running a lot of ballast 2000-3000+ or care about getting on plane faster and holding speed, the 911 would be a better choice than the 653. That said if you regularly do anything other than wakeboard/wakesurf you might be happier with the 653. That would be a better 'all around' prop.
