I have no idea where the handle is for the first handle pass on this trick. Someone told me when I'm heading towards the kicker, let go with my back hand about 5 feet before I get to the kicker and then pull with my front hand and try to pass the handle before I leave the kicker. I find myself trying to pas the handle while airborne (very unsuccessfully). Also, once I learn it what should I be doing to take it way off axis? I want eventually be able to do this trick off axis with a melon

try a medium edge then flattening off a little early, maybe about a meter before the kicker, then there will be less tension on the way up the kicker making it really easy for a handlepass.

Try them on flat water first to get the motion down. Edge out toeside and execute a backside surface 360. If you pass the handle on the kicker you're going to end up pre-rotating the trick which is bad form. As with all spin moves, pop then pull. The rotation will come with the handle pass.
