yeah 99 grand seems a tad high.

I think there were only something like 12 of them made and the original retail was a tad under 90 grand. Sport's Illustrated owns one, I think I read the govt owns one and most of the rest of them are owned by collectors.

You can get a 1200mm f8 by sticking a 2X on a 600 f4 L IS for about 8 grand total (or how about the new 800 f5.6L IS with 1.4X) so someone is paying an awful lot for that extra stop.

This lens is like the old Canon EF 50 f1 L, Canon built them because they could not for any real economic reason.

btw - Rich... Now I understand your position on the 70-200 f4.0 vs. the f2.8..! (even the f2.8 @ 4.0 is still not as sharp as the 70-200 f4.0 @ f4.0 )
