Bigshow, keep trying those 3's, you'll get them. For some reason they were elusive for me as well but I finally did one yesterday. My problem was that I was putting too much effort into the spin and would either initiate too early and dig my nose 3/4 of the way through or overspin it. I was surprised to learn that if you let it the lip does most of the rotation for you. Watching James and Chip do them effortlessly also helped me see what I was doing wrong. this is a prototype and needs some serious changes before it's ready but that didn't stop James from killing it.

nice pics! I beat myself to death this year wakeboarding(sort of burnt out too) so I've been surfing the last few weeks. What a blast!!! Didn't know what I was missing. Sean, very impressive getting that much air off the wake.

I wish that was me. It's James Walker showing me how to ride another of my boards. edit: Pictures don't do James riding justice either so it was even more impressive to see firsthand. (Message edited by CAskimmer on October 10, 2006)

Edward - why not buy a drysuit and go until the river/lake freezes over?

I'm sure I could squeeze in a few more days, but I like to winterize before the first hard frost. The first hard frost will be this Thursday or Friday but I signed up to pull some foil riders on Saturday, so I’ll put a ready lamp under the motor over night, we can't all live in Sunny CA

I'm so jealous, we have been warm enough here but my husband has lost interest. Actually he has lots to do before it gets too cold - I can't even get him out for an hour. And it's getting hard to find other non dyehards to go boating. They are looking at me a little funny when I say lets go boating.

I got a request to pull some Sky Ski/Air Chair guys so I put off winterizing and took a ride myself as well as some of my crew. So we got out one more time this season. We’ve had a good cold snap; we were riding in 110 F conditions, that’s 57 F in the water and 53 F Air temps. So here are a few shots from the last ride of the season. The Mighty Centurion on the rack. Sky Ski Dean riding switch on my good wake, no wet suit! Still love riding the tinny boards. Tada the season is over.

Cool (cold?) pictures Ed, you are always such a wealth of information, I was unaware that the air and water temperatures were additive! Speaking of things I was unaware of, a few pictures from our pond. Butter on a Saturday morning about 11AM.

Jeff, the rule of thumb that I've heard is air and water temps should add up to 100F. Back in April 05, we did 90F the first time on the Mighty Centurion's maiden voyage, that was refreshing. As always Dean rode with out a wet suit. Here's the after picture from that ride.

Ya, that's 90F in a shorty wet suit and Dean doesn't have a wet suit, but he does have a little walrus effect going for him. I had three pulls then started having trouble holding on to the rope. I bought kayak gloves for the second ride of the '05 season.

Ed, I would presume that rule of thumb only works when the air and water temps are relatively close...we still have air temps in the low 70's which would effectively allow our water to be...uummm...a solid? and I thought we were pushing our season!

It's difficult to get six months of riding around here. I try to run mid April to mid October, this year it got cold early, still had a heck of a season - can't wait for '07! Several of the guys at work heard about my rule of thumb and asked the same ice conditions question. I think I could go at 32 water temp and 68 air temp but I'd be careful not to fall

Oh my! 32 water temp?! I think that would qualify as an obsession! Down in the valley here in CA we never get freezing temps...well, the occassional freak dusting of snow, but it's like once every 5 years or so. Judy was born and raised in New Jersey and is used to snow plows and digging your driveway out. That seems so foreign to me. The WORST that we get is fog. We typically ride until the resorts open in Tahoe and then restart in late Feb or early March. I'd guess our boating season is 8 to 9 months long.
