I've got a 2010 Sante that I am upgrading to WetSounds products including 3 amps. My old set up used 2 amps and were ran to the fuse panel connected to the perko switch.

Question is, can I run one 0 AWG wire directly from the battery closest to the amps split to three 4 AWG wires to the amps or should I run back to the perko switch.

Running directly from the battery requires less run, although I purchased the fosgate 0 AWG amp kit, so should have enough wire.

Thanks for your help!

(Btw, if you are considering WetSounds gear, go to Earmark audio and request Odin....the guy is incredible!!)

Nate,

Yes you can definitely do that. however, by coming off the battery you will not be able to completely shut off the system like you would if it was on the Perko. Since you should be placing an inline fuse within 12-18 inches of the battery along the main trunk cable you could put in a circuit breaker instead to be able to switch the power off and prevent any unwanted battery drain from the amps when not in use

I do not advise this at all but it is possible. My stereo was ran this way by the previous owner and until we figured that out, we had already spent 400 dollars in batteries trying to figure out why our boat would never start. We now have to remove the positive cable off of the battery every time we go out so that the system does not drain when it is in the garage for a week.

Do it right the first time and you won't have to do it again.

I ended up connecting the 0AWG power wire to the Perko. System sounds great!

Not trying to hijack, but can amps wired directly to the battery still cause a drain if the headunit is wired to a disconnect switch?

NO.
But there are several other reasons why the amplifiers should not be wired battery-direct when using a dual battery switch.

Don't tell me. I don't want to know . . . Everything is working fine for once . . . fingers crossed.

I understand. Even talking about it is bad karma.
