A friend gave me 4 of these batteries and they weigh about 75 Lbs ea. I think they are used in cell towers. Any advantages / disadvantages to using in a boat?

Thoes are Suposed to Be killer battery's. A guy that used to post here way back Tom Bigg's used to run thoes. What ever you decide you will need to get a smart charger and a Smart voltage regulator like the Balmar MC612 voltage regulator to charge them. A stock Alternator and regulator aint gonna do it. Same go's for your shore charger

Grant, if you didn't depend on the alternator to charge the batteries, would a Balmar regulator be required? I'm upgrading to GC batteries this Winter with a Xantrec charger like you guys speak of in other threads, but the stereo batteries probably won't ever be connected to the alternator, and the boat will have it's own battery for starting.

John IMO If your Battery Bank is large enough you don't have to depend on your alternator as much. But most people don't have that option. If your Alternator never charged your batterys No you would not Need a MC612. If you have a nice shore charger and you can charge every night thats great

JB, I've been running that way for a couple years now with no problem. I'm just sure to charge as frequently as possible but there are times I'll run all weekend without pulling out of the water and even in those instances no problem.

Telecomunication batteries are the shizz but most that I have seen are 2 volts. What are those? If they are 2 you're gonna need to parallel 6 of them together.

Hate, you'd actually need to run them in series to get to a 12 volt bank. but those are 12 volt already....

Been running a fairly small system (3 amps: 750, 400 and 300 RMS) with a 225 AH bank completely isolated from my boats starting system. I've never come in with no beats....

Woops, thanks I know that but I'm on hold with a bank that is pissing me off and has my brain pretty fried!

Grant, with the setup I have now (2 Stinger SP1500's), I depend on the alternator, sometimes. I'm never out for more than a day without charging from a charger though, but I just wanted to make sure that would be okay. I think I'm gonna do 6 6V's, so essentially 3 12V banks, plus the starting battery.

I run my batteries completley dedicated to the stereo as well. I have an 800.4 and a 2400.1 with 315ah...I've never had the batteries die on me.

Those NSB batteries are great from what I've heard...a lot of the guys who compete in car audio SPL use NSB's...I've seen a lot of NSB 170's
