I'm looking into getting an '87 Barefoot Nautique from my wife's boss. I'm looking for some insight or opinions from people who might have ridden behind one. Its got a SkyJack tower on it and the boat itself only has a little over 300hrs. Any information would be great. Thanks.

Should be a 2001 hull with a 454. Find out where it was stored (outdoor covered, garaged, etc). Stringers are the main concern on these boats as Correct Craft used wood up until '93. To test the stringers, take a few wrenches and turn the bolts where the motor mounts hit the stringers. Also, soft spots in the floor is typical for boats of this age. take your shoes off and walk all over the floor to see if there are any. they will need some attention along with stringers if they're soft.

Other than that, sounds like great boat with low hours. Why are the hours so low?? Does the motor run strong? Low hours could be an issue as it points to larger problems.

Great hull and great engine. Rare boat.

Not a 2001 hull!
Barefoot is a deep V hullUpload

So does anyone ride these barefoot nautis? How is the wake? The SN2001 doesn't have a particularly deep v bow. I've always assumed that a deep vee is desirable in the BOW, but you dont want it to continue to the transom of the boat.

It seems to me like most wake boats (SN2001s, xstars, my 87 Supra SunSport) have a squared off transom like this (mine).

Just curious about the basics of a good wake-making hull. I would think this BF Nauti would be a good surf but maybe not so much a good wakeboard wake? Making chat..

Good point Kevin. I can't all these old boats straight in my head...

Newer nautiques continue the v toward the back IIRC.

hull is just a little deeper than the 2001 nautique and has the 454 should be good for wakeboarding loved my brothers 2001 as for surfeing if you weight it properly and surf the dark side it will be ok nautiques are right hand rotation prop and will make a better goofy side wake

Here is an '03 Super Air. V isn't as pronounced as the Barefoot but does continue back to the transom

Unfortunately the barefoot nautique actually does not produce as good of a wake as the sn2001. The deep v was used to produce lift thus causing less of a wake. Think of it like a inboard outboard hull. Its a hull that gets on plane faster and sits higher in the water. Allows the boat to be faster and produce a better table for barefooting.

The 2001 hull and the 03 super air/supersport/210 is almost an identical hull to the sn2001. Just scaled up a bit. I have a pic on my other computer of the two hulls next to each other and its pretty cool to see.

The 454 was actually an option on the 2001 also but it is VERY rare to find one. The 351 has more than enough power I cant even imagine what one would be like with a 454. Probably awesome, although I have a friend with an older supra that has a pcm 454 and I am not very impressed with it.

Post up some pics and price range Travis. If the deal is great it would still be an awesome boat. Not a slammed sn2001 awesome but still pretty cool!

Our friend has an 1987 barefoot nautique with a tower and 454, wake is big , but has no lip, very hard to get a pop off of, the wake was made to round out so a barefooter could cross back and forth, also we have surfed behind but it still doesnt produce a curl.

The deep hull was intended to place the prop lower in the water for a cleaner table with less wash.It will make a decent wake but not the same as a 2001.Also these boats rot a little different so the bolt test doesn't tell the whole story. If the boat is rotting you will see expanded foam creating a curvature in the floor and cracks on the side\bottom of the boat.Another thing to check is the floor separating from the sides.
