Shaft packing

We have a 08 22SSV Supra and noticed the dripless packing is leaking. Now can I just replace the rope inside, or do I need to replace the entire packing unit. Thanks guys.

i have a different boat, and i changed my packing to some braided teflon/graphite rope, you sould be able to just change the rope.

I'm not 100percent sure but it was my understanding the drip less type didn't use a rope seal ?

^^I believe Rick is correct. They use 2 collars and a seal system. I don't think there is a packing gland/ rope inside.

Also FYI its usually an adjustment issue when they leak and not replacement time.

That was what I understood, that dripless has no rope, but I couldn't find any information on how to tighten.

Dripless has a waterline going to it regarding any adjustment or serviceable parts will depend on brand most common cause of failure is running dry ie no water going through them
