First of all am new to this sight, and appreciate the response top questions. We just bought a 1002 x star from a private seller, working out some kinks.

The steering is pretty tight. In our last boat we were able to spin the steering wheel fairly easily. the fin in fron of the prop is hard to move as well. Any ideas what it could be? Have not tested on water yet, as we had problems with the battery. Thanks1

There is a lubrication point on the rudder shaft, very hard to get to on a v-drive like the x-star. The steering cables can get tight. There is no lubrication points on them, must be replaced. I was told replace every 3 - 5 years depending on use. I had a rudder get bent that made steering very hard. You can check for bent rudder versus cable by disconnecting the cable from the rudder and seeing which one is easier to turn.

KC Adams,
I have a 2001 Maristar210VRS that had the same issues, order a new steering cable (try www.skidim.com) for a lesser price then the dealer. The job to replace is very easy if your slightly mechanical, just try to do it with an empty fuel tank, as you might have to lift the tank to slide the old one out and put the new one in. Should only take a few hours, and it will make it good as new.

I did mine in 2.5 hours total including adjusting and water testing. Now I can steer with 1 finger again!

email me if you have other questions. kevingeary@gmail.com
