Photo contest? Best of 2007?

We did a photo contest and then it fizzled out. Since everyone has been busy, how about we just have a photo contest where the photo was taken sometime in 2007? Could make it general sports related if we want. The problem was we got to specific.

Who's game? Post your best sports photo from this year?

Well that would be my choice. The "Best of 2007" is popular right now with a lot of other websites. Walt, Joe or Rich may have the final decision but I think it's a good idea.

I just figure somewhere on our hard drives is a really good photo we took this year and would be happy to display it.

Well, it's not difficult for me to start the thread... just hard to find a celebrity judge. Not sure if Stephen Hahn is still interested in judging, or we can make a new rule that the winner of the last contest becomes the new judge. Or we can just put it to a vote to all registered wakeworlders.

Any consensus?

Rule #1. Cannot vote for your own.

Rule #2. Vote for 3 photos. No order. Photo with most votes wins. 2nd most votes 2nd. etc. etc.

I like Ryan's idea for voting. I think we can stick with that. We can have the final submission time one day before Umali get's home. That way we can eliminate him from the competition.

Let's have a little fun with this one...

After all the voting is done, someone should start a post in General Wake telling people that we are having this contest and that we want people to vote for what they think is the best photo.

Think the same photo will win? I don't. We'd likely have two winners and we could argue over who is the "real" winner instead of having to look at photos of Joe's cracked out dog for the rest of winter!

In my opinion, that didn't need to be a sequence. It would be perfect if you froze it in one of the last frames.

Yeah...the one problem people run into with shooting sequences is that they focus too much on the sequence and throw everything else out the window. The snow is blown the F out, and leaving the shutter open that long really messed up the fire. Now, don't get me wrong- that rider smeared across the frame is dope as hell, but the rest of the frame is pretty much yucky.

I would have to say, with the exception of a few photos, I was quite disappointed with peoples entries. I have seen better images out of a lot of the people who entered this year. I thought this was the best of 07?

I'm sure a few more shots will go up before the deadline and you might keep in mind that there are many different levels of photographers posting.

It's good to see everyone contributing to the thread and I'll take the bad with the good and look forward to seeing everyone's shots getting better in 08. It's also cool to see a few new people posting photos.

You're absolutely right Walt. It wasn't my intention to single any one person out. I just felt that I've seen better images from a few people that have already posted. Still waiting to see the rest.

Fairly small turnout. Wonder if some of us amateurs were not interested in competing against the better photographers of WW.

As for me, I have no shame.....it is all fun and a learning process.

Thanks for the input. Getting both positive and negative feedback on photos helps tremendously with the learning curve.

I should have been shooting in continuous mode.....

I just ran down next to the track at the finish line and sort of followed the horses down... (MY GOD THEY ARE MOVING FAST AS THEY GO BY!!!) Didn't really know what to expect. I will know better my next time out...

I can also use quite a bit of work with my photoshop abilities...but as with life, this is a work in progress.
