My goal was to get some good pics at our lake and at the beach this summer for framing in our new house. Why bother since I know there are some amazing photographers on this site. I would appreciate if you would post a favorite hi-res photo-water related. Please leave out boats and riders-no offense to your boat or riding.

Do you teach for free?

edit: no offense but I hope you don't get any responses from people wishing to "give" away photographs. Stuff like this is EXACTLY why I'm having to change professions.

LAME I know this is a community and I'm all about helping people out but this sucks. This is my job your killing!!!

But I see the point. Why buy a piece of art or make the effort yourself when you can have someone else's snapshot for free?

You are a professional. I can only assume you have fancy gear, and take stunning pictures. Why don't you direct him to where he can purchase your work (is this allowed on this forum?) instead of whining? You are not going to be able to stop amateurs from sharing photos with each other, and I don't want you to.

Sorry for the hi-jack.

Your "Oh poor me" post is ridiculous. It's not like he's putting them in a magazine or anything. As far as you needing to change professions you're either a poor photographer or more likely a poor businessman. I'm a Tile & Stone Contractor and have been since 1974. Do you think I go down and picket Home Depot when they put on their "do it yourself" tile installation seminars on the weekends or whine about their "give away" granite slab installations? (or worse the introduction of Chinese prefab stone tops to the American market).

The demand for media is greater now then it's ever been and will only continue to increase. The fact that digital imaging has made "pro" capability easier for the masses hasn't wiped out the need for quality work, I think it's accentuated it.

I'm sorry things didn't work out for your business but don't blame it on silly stuff like this thread!

rich- i agree. especially today when ANYONE can buy a 20D and shoot in auto mode and STILL get great pics. it really keeps people honest sometimes, but in the end the people who know the science behind things will rise to the top.

Devin that looks tack sharp. Crop out the binding and tower for a cleaner pic. Unless that is you like them in there then disregard completely.

I don't think I have ever seen a shutter of 1/449.2 before.

Schoolrider, also check the non wakebaording folder for more shots posted on a simialr subject.

Actually it's more like asking "I could tile it myself but don't want to actually spend the time or even pay for it so can you do it for me for free"

I'll admit I'm whining but with just cause. If you don't think that digital and the internet is killing professional photography then you are greatly mistaken. Yes, it has created a few new niche markets but by and large it has had a very neative effect to the industry as a whole.

More and more people are just having someone they know with a 20D shoot their wedding, sports magazines are getting even stingier because of the 10,000 kids who don't want a dime besides photo credit, the list goes on and on. Trust me it's not getting any easier no matter how good the skills are.

I'm curious what kind of photography you were doing that is so affected by a kid asking for lake shots on a wakeboard forum?

If great landscape photography is your thing let me suggest writing a book on how to shoot landscapes, lord knows I have bought about 10 of those! :-)

Lake Mendota from my porch. Higher quality and resolution can be uploaded/sent if anyone wants it. I had to scale it down and lower the quality a lot to get it on here. Boo that...

Dennish,

Noticed your pic of New Hogan. We have a camp reservation for Memorial. Is the lake and campgrounds functional?

I have seen that bridge before on Table Rock, But don't remember where. I am curious what end of the lake it is. I have lived near the lake all my life and can't remember that bridge!
