My mom used to ride before she got rheumatoid arthritis. I think she rode for 4 or 5 years. It was always great seeing her out there, and kudos to all the moms and dads who ride!

I went riding with a friend last summer and his mom who was 56 (Looked 76) got up on her second try. Rode for about 2 minutes in the crouch position then stood up finally. It was really col to see that

Danny: I do the wake crossing, surface 180, and I'm currently working on clearing the wake. After that I'll work on invert. It's slow going for me considering everyone else is 10 years younger than I am. But I'm trying. :-)

It sounds to me that your doing wicked!!! My mom is not that quite advanced, she can do her serface 180, ride switch and just about cross the wake!! She sees, getting any sort of air time as an impossible barrier but when she reads your post, maybe that will change!!

I've learned to go at a pace that's comfortable for me. That way I limit injuries to a minimum. I also surf whenever I'm not wakeboarding to keep in shape. Just keep getting water time and it gets easier every time. :-)

I wish my mom would go out with the rest of us on the boat, but I think she's scared of the boat. She went out only once, but she didn't like how the bow rised really high and couldn't see when we started out, but also didn't like just putting along in the water. My dad always goes out, because he is the one who does all the driving exept when I pull him skiing or wakeboarding. It's really funny to watch him wakeboard, cause he's pretty sketchy, especially riding my board finless, but it's great to know he likes to participate in the sports I do. I just wish my mom would come hang out for the day too, even if it was just on the dock.

Wow, that is so cool, she looks great also!! Can she do anything back there i.e surface 180 etc or is she more advanced than that??????
Old     (lchamaschuk)      Join Date: Feb 2002       04-10-2005, 1:44 PM Reply
That was her first time up. I think she got up on the first try too.

My mom is pretty active, she does 30km hikes, lots of biking and walking, dancing, lawn bowling, curling, etc.

The next year (last year, the pic was in 2003) she tried again, but we had forgotten which foot she had forward, and we had her getting up goofy. She was up for a little bit riding goofy a couple times. Then she took a hard fall and her back hurt for weeks. So she has retired :-(

I do 180s and 360s on the surface and 180s wake to wake - almost - thats how i torn the ACL loading up too much and landing hard in the flats - rode switch from July to Nov so i really improved - looking forward to the summer!!!!

And here's some pics of Barbara out tearing it up. I actually think this was the weekend you tore your ACL... or finished it off. You have it down to the day you can go back and ride... awesome!

Oh yeah, for the topic of the thread... my mom rocks because she lets me do all of this crazy stuff and even drives the boat for me sometimes. She's too smart to subject herself to the torture of actually riding though...
Later

I've got a 3 year old and a 1 year old and I've been riding for about 6 years. Haven't gotten out as much as I'd like but we bought a 2005 V-ride this year so I can't wait. Couple more weeks I hope.

Grandma's absolutely do count!
We were out on the boat last weekend when my daughter pointed out to the granddaughters (ages 4 & 5) that they probably have the coolest "gamma" around, that not too many other "gamma's" can wakeboard!
The 5 year old said "yeah, those other gamma's are old!". Gotta love her!

Finally, my kids got a photo of me headed out to the flats. No real tricks yet, just having a grand old time. This is out on Indian Lake in Pennsylvania, where it's really getting cold. Next year, it's big air for this Gammaw!

I was at The Boarding School this past fall and met the coolest couple ever, Edwina 68, and Leon 70. They both compete and she can even do a 540 on a wakeskate. What an inspiration!!

My Mom is 76 and can board and slalom. No tricks. But boards when her legs are to tired to get up on the slalom. She also has tried to hydrofoil but can not break her slalom habits. She used to step start off the beach w/slalom until we changed loaction to a rocky beach .

Man. I can only hope (if I live to 76) that I'll have the body and the attitude to do this stuff.

My mom is still being trained to drive the boat, but she is getting better and better!

she stays the right distance from the rails and can drive a straight line.

still working on the double up though.

plus shes hella supportive and doesnt freak out if i take nasty falls, like i did last week at this rail jam.
