I've been contemplating replacing my 4 factory JL Audio tower speakers with HD speakers. Does anyone know of a replacement that would perform well but still fit inside the factory cans (with integrated forward facing lights) on an '07 X45. Do you think this would be money well spent?

Are you wanting them to be louder or sound better? I really like the way the JL's sound compared to other speakers. Maybe you can't hear them at 10x normal listening volumes when you're wakeboarding but the sound quality is a whole lot better! How much power are you running to them? What model are they? Just wondering if you could run more power to them and get what you were looking for. If they are the 770's (7.7"), I'm guessing you could probably run 150-200 watts rms to them and they would be fine as long as you don't distort them. I know they are only rated for 100w but they peak at 225.

To get an exact drop in HLCD speaker u will want the Bullet Neo 7.7 HLCD speaker. It will drop directly into those MC pods. While the JL def sound much better and true, they will not make it to a rider. These Bullets are designed to project the sound. Great easy upgrade keeping the factory look. I don't know what amp u have but the bullets will want 150-200watts rms each to push them.
