Whats the best way? Is it necessary to unplug the tube from the speedo behind the dash and blow through it to make sure there's no water anywhere in the system?

I've never done this, but it doesn't hurt if you're worried.

Yes you def want to do that. Leaving water in there can damage your speedeo or in particular on earlier Mastrrcrafts you main mdc. Water expands when it freezes and will Di some damage. A good deep breath will clear them out.

Umm you shouldn't have any water in the system unless there is a leak somewhere like the hose, a fitting or the speedo itself. The system works off of AIR pressure created by the water at the pick up. No water actually enters the system if everything is as it should be.
