I'm thinking about running a Sundown SAZ-2500 in my boat on two Sundown SA 12's. What do you guys do to help from voltage dropping too low and damaging the amp. I'm currently running 3 27 series deep cycle batteries for just the stereo. The motor is not running 95% of the time the radio is playing so upgrading ALT wouldn't help.

Thanks
Brad

batteries batteries batteries. I have 570 amp hours worth of batteries on my boat with a 4000w REAL rms system...

X2 batteries. I'd look at stepping right out of G27's and run golfcart batteries. Maximum bang for the buck versus aH.

Also make sure your feeding from zero ga power ground cable.

THIS!!!! i have a true 4200 watt system... was having problems killing amps until i upgraded to 500+ amp hours and ran dual 0 Guage power cable and a 50 AMP charger... now when my stereo is playing full blast my voltage stays with un 1-2tenths of a volt.... no more huge voltage drops!!

Batteries will help but for all day playing tunes you need to run a converter with a Honda 2000ie generator on board. That's what I use to keep my tunes playing. I have played for 14 hours straight with no hick ups. I have 3 31t blue tops and1 boat battery progressive dynamics converter and the generator.

3 x Zapco DC 1100.1's
1 x Zapco DC 1000.4
1 x Zapco c2k 9.0
8 x group 27 AGM bank serviced by a 40 amp Xantrex on board charger.
2 AGM start bank

pretty sure i have more than 2kw, and i dont need a generator to play all day....but then again, i spend most of my time riding, not seeing if i can play my Justin Bieber playlist louder than the other 45 people i am tied up to....

Brad, I have (2) Trojan golf cart batteries wired in a series and have been pleased with them.

About your setup, that amp is overkill for 2 SA-12's. The SAZ-2500 is way underated, and it's underrated on 12.5v. Most manufacturers rate their amps on 14.4v. On a 1ohm load at 14.4v they put out around 3400 watts RMS. One guy clamped his and got 2360w RMS @ 2ohm. The SA-12's are underrated at 600w RMS and can handle 1000w RMS daily, but 800w to each sub is plenty. I'd either go with the SAZ-1500 for those subs, are get (2) Sundown Zv3 12's to pair with the SAZ-2500d.

To me if your going to go through the trouble of adding batteries, you need to add to your alternator as well. Anything under 100 amps is doing nothing for tending a big system.

I am running right at 5000 watts of bass alone and another 2000 watts of mids and highs with 8 batteries and a 210 amp alternator and i can get low on power by the end of the day no problem if i don't watch it.

For the 2 weekends a year that i tie up with friends and am not riding, i prefer to not take up alot of storage with batteries. my generator can be unplugged and put away in the garage. while the generator is in the boat i put it in the bow.

lol i love the generator idea. i am going to run 3 syn 4s and 1 jl 1700 i think 3 batteries and a good on board charger should do me well. 4 rev10s 6 xs650 inboats and an xs12 sub. my last boat had 3 group 31s and 3 amps, so i think i should be good

No Generators please !!!!

Do the math on AH and wire appropriately. If your system becomes too large that you cannot maintain the batteries without potential alternator failure , Then add a on board charger. if you need to plug this in via generator on a camping trip ect...... fine . but do not wire in a fashion that is reliant on the generator . The difference between current requirements of ac/dc are completely different.

i use a 20amp progressive dynamics converter as thats the max my generator will put out. i only use the generator for long days of nothing but running the stereo like the bump party (as seen in picture above 12 noon to 2 a.m.) or memorial weekend that i am running 4 days straight of just party music tied up with friends and there boats. my stereo will play 10 days when i wakeboard/ surf etc on family vacations, but sitting there playing music not sure how many days it will last, and dont want to find out. Most people will run there boat during these stereo outings but i prefer to keep the boat off and not put useless hrs on the motor. This is my opinion and experience of what works for me and im not a stereo guy like earmark or chucktronics. i dont want or need tons batteries in the boat all year taking up precious space i need for my kids stuff for something i do once to twice a year.
