I hate how I cannot find a hat these days that isn't ugly as sin, or a new era stright brim hat.... they're awful and I just need a hat to moped in but do NOT want to be a flat-brimmer, because I'm better than that.

Sorry, just needed to vent this.

Don't hate. Different styles for different people, nothing wrong with that.

There is something wrong when it affects the ease of my online shopping.

Remember the "trucker" hat phase.... hated that too.

Its cool if others where them, thats fine, but it seems companies have forgotten other hat styles just because that 1 type is popular.

if you spent more time in school and less time hatin' on hats, you'd be better off.

I'm balls deep in Diff Eq right now... one more week and I'm donezo though!!!!

then the craving for a treatzza-pizza hit... went to go moped to DQ, hair hitting my face the whole way.... thats what sparked the hat shopping spree and all I get is trash.

I'd be better if I spent more time doing homework than standing up for flat brims.

I'm addicted to wakeworld!

I agree. I'm super picky about my hats, and have never been a huge fan of trucker-style or straight brim... but a topic worthy of general wake discussion - thats debatable

Bam, hats. Where have you even been looking? Last couple times I bought a hat, I found decent looking ones with normal brims pretty easily.

^ haha, I just wanted a few quick hits.
This is the best place.

Now that I've vented, with one on my side, its okay if it is removed

You know what really grinds my gears....

I'm with you Nick. I've been looking for a hat also. Every time I see a design I like, it's got that freggin straight brim. Not hating on the style either, it looks good on most of the younger generation.
Old     (drewproses)      Join Date: Oct 2008       05-05-2009, 6:46 PM Reply
Why dont you guys just bend the flat brim how you want it?
Old     (sidekicknicholas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       05-05-2009, 6:53 PM Reply
My brother is a flat brimmer, tried to bend one of his, looks even more awful.... I think its a bigger overall brim, then when it bends it gets nuts.

Edit: no offense Jessica, all those hats, besides one, that is all black - ew.

Nick, just get a New Era 59Fifty and wear it. The first few weeks you will be flat billin(so wear it around the house) but after you work in a few sweats the wool will start to shrink and it will begin to gradually curve. Once you get it where you want it, stuff it with t-shirts when you aren't wearing it to keep the shape. Make sure you get a size larger to accommodate the shrinkage, hehe.

Wear a helmet on a moped, I got run off the road dozens of times on the 'ped.

I find that if I go out looking for a new hat I can never find one, but then BAM i'm doing something unrelated and the perfect one comes into my life.

You can't force the hat purchase. When the time is right the right hat will find you.

I have a rotation of hats that I generally wear,
St. Louis Cards New Eras
Home-Red
Away-Navy
Alternate-Navy with Red Bill

Whenever I buy a New Era I take them and put them under hot water then put them on pressing them down to my head wearing it around the house. I repeat that cycle a few times and put a little bend to the bill, just enough that I can wear my sunglasses under the hat. This keeps them from looking ghetto and more like a ball cap.

I feel ya! Here is one of my favorite non flat brimmed hats. You may not like it if you aren't a fan of Hype but it does fit well and if it's just for chillin who cares!

The catalyst hat is also a good one!

you can't go wrong with any flexfit, rarely are they flat billed and always fit great

I agree with Nick, not a fan of the flat bills or the trucker style either.... and when did wearing a hat with your ears tucked in become cool??? I thought that was only for the little kids in tee-ball with the huge Dumbo ears....
Old     (sidekicknicholas)      Join Date: Mar 2007       05-06-2009, 8:58 AM Reply
I use to have an oneill flexfit i loved.

I think the catalyst or the team hat.

SS has an okay looking flexfit too.

Thanks guys, I'll sleep on this choice... and purchase soooooooon.

*Don't let this stop the flat brimmers chime in and fight though.

I am right there with you Nick. not a fan of the flatbill. to each his own though, right?
my head is in between sizes, so I can never find one that fits right. flexfits are deeper than they used to be when they first came out. none of them fit me anymore. and don't even get me started on the new era baseball hats. I can never get one to sit right on my head. they have this weird dent in the front, because I can't get it down any lower than my ears and I refuse to wear it over my ears since I am not "fitty cent"!

Flatbills give you better peripheral vision while playing ball...baseball players everywhere flatten their bills out to have better vision so that the bill of the hat is not in their way....i rocked my hat while playing ball in school neva changed it...long live flat billers

I've had the hardest time finding a new hat. IMO the current styles are pretty goofy looking, and I'm not a fan of the flat bill. Whenever I see happen on a hat that I even half way like I buy it, because it happens once in a blue moon.
Old     (eubanks01)      Join Date: Jun 2001       05-06-2009, 11:00 AM Reply
I guess I'm old school but I agree that the new straight billed hats look dumb IMO! The only hats that seem to fit right for me are the old formed fitting golf type hats that fit to your head and don't stick stright up in the front like the flat billed ones do. Also, I think flex fit hats suck just as bad. Most of them look goofy and leave and dreaded red band on your forehead.
Old     (eubanks01)      Join Date: Jun 2001       05-06-2009, 11:06 AM Reply
Out of curiosity, what do the younger (teenagers and young 20 somethings) flat billed wearing kids think of the older (30-35+) folks wearing a flat billed hats? Do they welcome it and think it is a cool look for most ages or do they think it looks dorky on the older generation and should be reserved for the younger folks? Just curious.

The flat billed look seemed to have been reserved for the skater type folks but now it seems to be popular amongst other "fashions" as well.

I used to not like the look of the flat billed cap but it grew on me. Once I update my shades from the wire frame Oakleys to a more current frame I found that the new sunglasses suck when you wear them with an old curved bill!! You can't pull the bill down as far as you want because the edges hit the newer style sunglass frame. Just my 2 cents.

New era hats have been the same aaaaaalways....you can curl your brim if you want to! All hats pretty much come straight brimmed (some dont I know, but most do)...if you want to curl it take a baseball, curl the hat around it, put a rubber band around that and it will curl the brim....thats what we all did in little league anyway...

I'm late in responding, been busy....
I can't seem to get a flat bill to look right on my head, I guess I've got an old molded head from baseball caps all my life. I looked at some of the cap on-line stores but very few curved old style caps with cool current wake logos.
Maybe a niche for a business idea.

Can't wait to see your hat Nick
