I have a Fulton 1400 winch on my trailer. I guess the internal parts are getting loose or worn as it slips when it gets loaded up the last bit. Thinking of going to the 1600 or maybe bigger. Never had to replace a winch so question is, are the bolt patterns the same across the Fulton line in the same series? Also, by chance does the effort to winch decrease as the capacity increases (sorry for the second rookie question). Thanks everyone.

Yes, effort decreases with a larger capacity winch, you just have to crank the handle more rotations. You can achieve the same result by shortening the strap on the winch, the larger the spool of strap, the less mechanical advantage you have. If you make it half the diameter, the effort is also cut in half. I usually run about 4' of strap, I have never needed the 20' or whatever come on a winch. I only winch the last foot or two.

Come to find out, pretty much most wakeboat trailer winches are two bolt and not three bolt so that limits the winch upgrade quite a bit.

I have the Fulton F2 on both of my boats. It's the best product Fulton makes. I wish the F2 jacks were as good as the F2 Winch. Pretty sure my F2 winch is a 3 bolt. I'm sure you could adapt it if need be.
