Anyone Knowledgeable On Older Boat Transmissions ?

I have to replace or rebuild the transmission on my 91 Supra Sunsport with has 1.23:1 transmission and my question is do I have to go back with the exact same transmission is there a better one or a cheaper alternative ? Anyone know where I can ship my transmission to have it rebuilt ? The cheapest I've been quoted locally is $2700 and that just seems a little on the high side to me . . . Any help would be greatly appreciated

I had the trans in my 93 malibu rebuilt locally for $500. it is a Borg-Warner Velvet Drive. Check around your local shops. maybe somebody can help you out.

Find someone in the area that rebuild forklift transmission. They should be able to point you towards the nearest BW guy.

I rebuilt the trasmission on my 82 mastercraft. Got the parts and manual from marinegears.com. they were very helpful and if you have some tools, it was easier then some legos I used to build. cost me ~$200
