There must be some method to the madness.

How does ballast placement in the boat change the shape of the wake? i.e. ballast in the back effects height of wake while ballast in the front effects length?

Does it vary with every boat?

Can you have too much ballast? (assuming the boat can still float)

I need some theories to apply to reality.

Thanks in advance

Hey Mark,

Your first statement is pretty much accurate. I've also found that each hull seems to react differently to weight placement.

One of the problems with ballast placement is that individual tastes vary. Some folks love short pockets with tall steep faces...others prefer smaller faces, with longer pockets. So it is possible to get TOO much ballast, but I'm sure somewhere there is a rider that will love the resultant pocket. :-)
