Brian, I've got a 07 also. It does very good towing the boat. However I have been very disappointed with the overall mpg when not towing the boat.

For a SUV that they advertise as the best mpg of all full size suv's. I am getting like 12 city and maybe 16 highway. Heck I got much better than that in my old Sequoia.

Insuranceman, We are getting better milage than that. On a 2-3 hour road trip we have seen as high as 20 mpg. Freeway trips at 80 mph average about 17 to 18. I also agree that it does a great job of towing the boat.

I'm with insuranceman. I have an 07 Yukon Denali and I'm getting 13 avg.

Justin forget the Denali I want to know what you have on the tower? Actually the Denali is pretty sick too.

Jeez those cans looked huge from the other angle. I was thinking there is no way he could fit 3 NVS tyrants on that tower. Clean looking setup.

Justin,

Sick looking Denali. What type of wheels do you have one there, and what motor do you have?

Rox 22in Bassalt rims. Vortec 6200 V8 Engine. Thanks for the comments.

The Denali/SAN is definitely a sweet setup.

This is totally off topic, but why do I see people turn their mirrors facing down? Is this to reduce drag when at highway speeds?

I do it to reduce BUGGAGE!! It helps a little.

Nice looking rigs.. I think the difference in gas mileage is probably because Brian has the 5.3L (just assuming). How do you like the 6.2 Justin? (is that the aluminum block and heads?)
Old     (insuranceman)      Join Date: Jun 2005       08-15-2006, 1:24 PM Reply
I've got the same engine as Brian. I said something to the dealership and they said they would look at it when I take it in for the oil change.

I don't know if the 20 inch wheels have much to do with decreasing the gas mileage.

Hmm 13mpg avg with the 6.2. I get 18 with my '05 6.0 Denali and 16 towing. Don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon with gas prices

May look into having the dealer re-program the computer to compensate for the 20s. That is, if you added them after delivery. If they are factory 20s, you should be good to go.

yea, the wheels do affect your gas mileage. Have them adjust it

Marcus, bought it direct from the dealership with them (aftermarket). But they do offer them from the factory with 20's.. hopefully that will help.

insuranceman, which 20s are those? they look good
Old     (dajuice)      Join Date: Jul 2002       08-15-2006, 3:15 PM Reply
I had the dealership do the reprograming already. Still only getting 13.5 at best. I had an 05 that I bought new and I got the same in it. Not anything I didn't know before I bought the new one. These things tow GREAT though.

isaac, i will look in the morning. got to mow.

overall it is a big improvement over the old design. much quiter on the inside and the appts. are much nicer in my opinion....

justin, i had to fill up again and my overall last week was 12.4 mpg and i probably was 70% highway and only towed the boat a whopping 2 miles.

While we're on the topic of Denali's and boats, here is my rig. It's only an '03, but I love it.Upload

Thats good stuff! I re-programmed mine with a Superchips. It helped quite a bit with the overall performance. I average 13 MPG, truck is 2WD though.

Here is mine. The truck is the special Flairside (mullet) Edition from 92. It doesn't even come close to comparing to anything on this page but it is better than my previous tow vehicle 1979 Mercury Grand Marquis Station Wagon.

Big difference between the Tahoe and Denali.
Tahoe has a 5.3
Denali has a 6.2 with 6 speed automatic.

This was my set up with my old boat/truck. I can actually say I enjoyed towing that boat on a hot day. Got a new rig and boat now, but don't have pics yet.

i have been seeing so many people towing with low-pro tires, do you ever have any trouble towing with those kind of tires, i mean thats a lot of stress on the sidewalls..

Has anyone figured out yet that the reason for the crappy mileage on the 07's is most likely because they haven't had time to break in the motor yet? You're not going to get anywhere close to advertised MPG until at least 20k has been put on the motor, and probably closer to 30/40k. New motor + heavy load = craptastic mileage :-)

How many miles have all you new 07's got on your rigs? I didn't stop crying about the mpg on my truck until about 2k miles ago, it's finally started to break in.

2007 Escalade with 403hp 6.2ltr engine, 6-spd transmission. Big difference from the '05 Denali, and I mostly attribute it to the tranny's tighter gear ratios.

The back-up camera is also a real help for hooking up the boat.
