A Malibu or a supra? Really?

Yep going to give them a shot.

Supra has tiny wake, go with malibu. I was close to buying a SC this year but after the demo and then spending a weekend behind an SA, I couldn't get the wake to get big. Ran 3000lbs in the SC and close to that in the SA also. Loved everything else about them but the wake was small compared to my 05 VLX much less nw bu or G.

G21... only $10-20k more probably. But definitely worth it.

I'm surprised. I demoed a f22 and MXZ last fall and felt the f22 had the better wakeboard wake. Don't know anything about the Supra. With the 2800 internal ballast seems like it's hard to beat the f22. But change is fun so understand that.

Both are top notch boats and I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you choose. I can't say I have spent much time or any for that matter in the MXZ but have spent a lot in the SA , SC and my SE this year. I switched from Malibu a couple years back into the SA and loved the boat handled amazing under a load and the fit and finish was great. My one and only issue with it was that lack of freeboard .... And that's been fixed for 2016 just saw the new SA and it's awesome looking !! Also had a buddy who got to ride behind it at the dealer meeting and he said the wake was great. I really think that the Raptor power plant is the best on the market right now and have loved my 450 in my SE. As for the statement above about the tiny wake I never had the issue in my SA , found the wake to be very clean and big with no extra weight and 4-5 in the boat and I ran a extra 1100lbs every once and a while and it was massive ! I would wait until that new SA comes out has some really cool upgrades that I think people with really dig.

Shane10 that is great news. Didn't know they were adding freeboard. That will definitely factor into the equation. My wife doesn't like to drive as it is and with the extra height she doesn't have to worry about taking on water as much. I like the styling of both boats. Each has its Pros and cons. I like the screen on the Maliview but it's nice to have toggles if you get in a bind. Guess I'll hold out for pics of the new SA and see what it looks like.

Go demo both. Otherwise you are just guessing. I'd add a 22vlx to that list. I got mine yesterday and I'm thrilled with it.

Why not a T22 or A22 and save thousands?

I've had two Axis boat's. Just time to make a move.

Chatt,

I have just wanted a couple of opinions. You know I'm coming off of 2-A22's and 2-MB's. Just trying to take the next step.

Thanks sir

Why not skip the baby step then and go right to a G!

Don't demo a G, it will only point out the short comings off all the other boats . After having spent a week riding G23s I can say they are absolutely a step above.

But if a G is out of your price range, I'd take a look at the T23, I was very very impressed with this boat too.

The people I work for have a G25. Yes that is the leader of the pack right now but I can't afford the payment or the gas bill. I know my limitations.

you don't need a G25 - G21 or G23 are fine and don't suck that much gas - sometimes you find some nice priced used G's. And imho a G21 has more usable space then a MXZ22.

The only thing i don't like on the T23, no PowerWedge 2).

I'm a huge fan of the MXZ and a friend of mine that rode behind the Supra also said the wake is small.

Also, Malibu is getting the Raptor engine lineup in 2016, so powerplants will be no different.

DTB - sorry for the short response. I guess what I meant is that, you really need to sit in each boat to see how they will fit your crew. The MXZ is designed to maximize the room in the bow of the boat. Some people love that, some don't. Personally, I'm in the camp where I would rather have extra room in the cabin. The bow is for a big triangle sac, or for a couple of girls to get some sun while we are cruising. That's about it. I like having a lot of cabin space so everyone on the boat can hang out together. That's one of the reasons I ended up buying a 22VLX this year. It's noticeably smaller than the A24 I had last season, but there is still plenty of room on the boat. We had 14 on it on Saturday. It was crowded, but totally doable.

Thanks, I think we are kind of inbetween those two. We usually only have 8 or 9 and seem to always have 2 to 3 up front. They are usually kids or wives, they don't take up much room.
Old     (Bamabonners)      Join Date: Jul 2011       06-29-2015, 2:40 PM Reply
I still say load up a T22 or T23 and save money... But I can understand wanting the VLX as well. I would prefer the VLX to the MXZ - more room in cockpit.

Chatt, have you posted pics of your new ride yet??
Old     (YYCBoarder)      Join Date: Apr 2013       06-29-2015, 4:02 PM Reply
IMO, a G is harder to ride than a malibu unless you're an advanced rider. The G wake is clean and rampy but big (even with ballasts empty) and very wide. I haven't ridden the mxz but the vlx is much more mellow, super clean at any speed, predictable, and less intimidating. I actually really liked it.

Ride them all to see how predictable, clean and how sensitive the wake is to weight distribution. It's a pain to have to make people move around all the time.

For sure wait until you can ride the new SA. Brand new hull for 2016. I hope to ride on one this weekend

I have not seen the new 2016 Supra SA, but heard it is awesome... Seems like a smaller version of the SE. I am going to strongly consider this boat next year myself.
I saw someone earlier in the post say the SC and SA have tiny wakes..... Huh? Did you really get on one and the sales guy knew how to weight it and use the SWELL or are you just trying to stir the pot? If you ever want a demo in Portland, OR, come on out. We have ours dialed up. Ours is an SC though.

As others have said, get out and demo and see what you guys like. We all have our opinions and you probably can't go wrong with either of these choices

I'm in the same mindset as preston.

I've owned many XStars and MXZs. I now have a 2015 A22. I don't miss anything about the more expensive boats, except for maybe a complete windshield. My wake is better than ever and I'm riding better than ever. Touch screens and power features don't make my experience any better.
Old     (T_A)      Join Date: Feb 2013       06-30-2015, 10:46 AM Reply
Not trying to stir any pots...I was really ready to sign papers on an SC assuming demo went well. Not sure if the sales guy knew how to dial it in but we put 3000lbs in it and tried the wake plate all over and couldn't even get it knee high. The next weekend I spent 3 days behind an SA and we put as much weight in it as the 350 and 1235 could handle and the wake was marginal at best. Still about knee high maybe...I was expecting a wake like a G since supra was trying to copy them in every other way with the boat but was very disappointed. Just make sure you ride it first cause I was expecting much more than I got behind that boat. Diggs how much weight you put in yours? I'm betting it takes 4-5000lbs to get on the level I was expecting...

I was referring to wakeboard wake only. Surf wake took awhile to dial but was good.

Were you in deep water and monitoring speed? We are running about 3200lbs and will be honest that we don't really wake board any more, but I can see it back there and have pulled a few guys that were crapping their pants. We actually let 1/2 the water out of the rear compartments. Wake board wake cleans up at 18mph and that is loaded. Sucks you did not like it or see it dialed. Everyone has what works for them and there is not a bad choice out there.

Top deck and hull are Platinum
Accents are Ruben Red and the side is Charcoal Flake.
