When you look back at your riding experience what board was your favorite? If you could go back in time what board would you buy again? Do you have a favorite you wish you never sold or gave away?

Mine, 02 Byerly DNA. So much pop.

Jarret the Transcend is still one of the better shapes, but CWB made a few changes to the Absolute for 09 and nailed it, the board just edges great and pops harder, they both land soft, but the pop on the 09 Absolute is killer.
If you get a chance to demo an 09 Absolute give it a ride, you will love the board.

sorry for the hijack, carry on.

1996 Jeff Heer with the maple leaf on it. It would make a wistling sound when you cut. I bought it at the US open and talked to Murray, Parks and others and they told me how to do a tantrum. I learned it in 3 tries the next day. It is the best board just for this reason.

Parks ran up to me and used my video camera to look at his run that day. What other sport has pros that will talk to you and actually grow the sport with their actions.

As far as pure feel the Cartel has been the best board I have ever been on but I seem to be more consistant on the Watson. Of course my experience is limited to 6 years of riding. :-(

I think it is funny that you say "over the years" when referring to Shows, Jeff. Isn't he like 18 or something? It is crazy how young this sport is and how I never knew how much it grew until just a few years ago. I sold my boat and got off my slalom ski in 92 to start my career and missed the best growth years of the sport. :-(

Probably the 2001 CWB Zane. Nothing really that special but for some reason I just loved it and I really progressed on that thing.

But honestly, I think my new Lyman will be the best board ever. It may be now but I only rode it for a weekend. I know that it's 3-4 years newer than my old board but the design seems to be way beyond what I would of thought.

I had a subjekt 134 and loved that thing, think it was an 03. I got the Premeir DNA 136 after having cracked a TFD under warranty. the premeir was money, rode it finless, hokked up when you wanted it to and kicked like a mule when you got on it hard. I have an 08 Ronix One 142 that I have yet to ride but I'm looking forward to it.

Motive... Bought quite a few boards over the years. Landed my first backroll on a LF Fly135 (hence the name I use). The Motive is the only board I've bought more than once. 6 of them so far and I'm still riding the Motive.

i also still like my "can-oppener" byerly, for some of my beginner friends to ride (flow -through rails work good for helping a novice edge lock in better it seems), but after they jump on the SS they are done with the byerly

Liquid Force Substance

...but my riding never saw such progression as it did with the original Liquid Force Squirt.

No offense intended, and I hope none taken since this is just a ride down memory lane but the mid-late 1990's Hyperlite models were among the worst shapes I've ever experienced - that includes the Fluid, Heer, asym-Shapiro - awgh, kills me to whack a Murray product - but I ran a shop at that time and had access to just about everything. The BAFF was the worst of the lot. All of those frst HL twin tips felt, to me, like riding low deep set tail heavy angry little rowboats. I stayed on a 95 or so KD/Blindside (wish I knew what that was by the way - input would be appreciated from anybody on identifying that thing - grey and blue with metal fins) all the way through until the Squirt. Once I got on that my riding improved exponentially.

So many awesome boards have come and gone...sadly. Anyone that has ridden the Double Up Nelson/Delta shapes know how amazing they were, but unfortunately how fragile they were. I was fortunate enough to be able to ride for them and breaking them wasn't a huge deal but it was seriously a board every three-four weeks when used on sliders. My number ONE was the Origin Skull 138 which was the podium 138 next year. Also super fragile and both of their lives were taken at OWC. I also loved my Double Up Lidberg, sooooo much pop, little rough on the landings but also fragile. The SUPER SQUIRT 132 was ALL TIME as well. That board was so sick, and so simple. I love boards with a simple shape. None of my boards I ride now feel like my boards used to but I used to be at a much higher level a few years ago in a different way. I don't want to say I was "better" but I just didn't have as much fear and my only goal was to land new tricks so my bag was much larger. Now I only really do the tricks that I like to do and feel good to me instead of having to do more technical "crowd pleasers" although a slowly rotated method pete is still my favorite trick. My Sine 138 should be in soon so that I have a feeling is going to be a list topper!! I can just feel it. So my list is the following:
#1 Double Up Delta/Nelson 135
#2 Origin Skull/Podium 138
#3 Super Squirt 132
#4 Double Up Lidberg

The Delta---v

For me, the '02 Belmont. That's about when I was at my peak.

For my boys, it would have to be the Squirt. They progressed soooo much on that board! They still get it out and rip it up on that thing every now and then.
Old     (juniorhawk)      Join Date: Jul 2004 Location: New England       04-17-2009, 8:47 PM Reply
Yes - the Super Squirt (Gregg N pro model)was an amazing board. Unfortunately I broke my tibia/fibula on one so it's hard for me to look at it the same way but I hold it in super high regard.

Again though about the Squirt, last summer I was waiting for LF to send me my my 09 stuff and gave away my practically new Substance. The season ended for me before I got the 09 stuff so I stayed on the Squirt from August onward. I was completely happy being back on that 10 year old shape. And I'm not some kind of super awesome rider that can perform on any board thrown at me. So - purposely overstated but the Squirt line is legendary. Hard to argue that it's the most emulated shape in the history of the sport. I see evidence of it everywhere. It was the first short, wide, snappy board with low swing weight and increased rocker. It came out and the next year O'Brien followed. 2 years later Hyperlite caught on and then everyone did.
