Hey everyone, I've been wakeboarding for 8 years and found this group of people who go to Lake McClure every other weekend from May through October with occasional day trips on the delta and Bullards Bar Reservoir. The group is always looking for boat owners and riders. Here's an informational email that went out to their MeetUp groups. It's a really sweet deal for boat owners cuz they get their gas reimbursed along with camping and launch fees. (The website needs work but all of the info is on there.) Cheers, Michelle (feel free to contact me with any questions)

Welcome to Fun and Sun Water Sports Club’s 2014 season – our kickoff party is May 3rd

If you’re not familiar with Fun and Sun Water Sports Club, we are an actual club rather than just a Meetup group. To help promote the club, we maintain three regional Meetup groups – Bay Area, East Bay and Nor Cal (Sacramento area). The most comprehensive source of information on the club is our website - www.fun-and-sun.org

Who we are:

We are a 21-and-over non-profit social club based in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are made up of waterskiers, wakeboarders and wakesurfers who would rather spend a weekend on the water than doing just about anything else. The club is run by a volunteer board of approximately 10 members, formed each fall to begin organizing the upcoming season of outings. Board positions are listed on our website, and provide an opportunity for members to contribute to the fun. We have been operating for more than 40 years – so we know how to run a weekend on the water.

How we operate:

Our calendar of outings is finalized by January. Our home playground is Lake McClure, which is an hour east of Modesto - about three hours from the Bay Area or Sacramento in moderate traffic. Most outings are at Lake McClure, but we occasionally have outings elsewhere. This season we expect to hold our late-summer outings on the delta due to low water levels at the reservoirs – we’re always thinking ahead, and plan on having a full calendar of outings this summer.

Outing sign-ups are done in advance online through our website and PayPal, with a deadline of the Tuesday before the outing weekend - to give us time to organize the weekend. Members arrive Friday night, boat all day Saturday and Sunday and head home Sunday afternoon. We determine membership and outing fees based on the actual costs of operating the club and outings.

Our Boat Commodore, a board position, coordinates boat assignments. If you’re a boat owner there is no need to round up a crew – the Boat Commodore will put together a crew for you. If you don’t own a boat the Boat Commodore will assign you to a boat that is appropriate for your sport.

Benefits for Boat Owners:

Your expenses are reimbursed – if you attend an outing with your waterski- or wakeboard-appropriate boat, our Treasurer will reimburse you for boat gas, launch fees and camping fees after the outing. You no longer need to ask your friends to pitch in for boat gas. All you need to do is submit your receipts along with a reimbursement form, which is available on our website.

Your crew is set – while you have an opportunity to bring a guest, our Boat Commodore will ensure that you have a full crew matched up for your sport (wakeboarders on wakeboard boats, etc.). You no longer have to spend the week trying to round up a crew, only to have them flake at the last minute.

You have an experienced boat driver – if you aren’t already bringing a guest who can drive your boat, our Boat Commodore will assign a member who is a Club Approved Driver (CAD). The CAD will help you launch your boat and give you a pull when it’s your turn to have fun.

Benefits for Non-Boat Owners:

Now you know boat owners – if you had no way to get on the water, now you do. The club is a great opportunity to meet boat owners to get you out on the water in between club outings as well.

Meet the club’s board and members on May 3rd:

Our annual season kickoff party, Wet Start, will be held May 3rd on the upstairs level of Sonoma Chicken Coop in downtown Campbell. It will be a great opportunity to meet the club’s board and about 100 members. There is more Wet Start party information on our website, and more emails will follow soon.

Get your questions answered:

If you have any questions, I’ll be happy to answer them - by email or phone, whichever you prefer. I’ve been a boat owner and club member since 1998. You can reach me at vp@fun-and-sun.org
