Took my 06 Calabria out on Sunday, after half a day of surfing I shut the engine off. When I restarted it the engine started squealing- I opened the engine cover and saw the water circulating pump (top of engine) not spinning and the belt slipping over it. I took the belt off and the pump seemed to spin ok, but not real free. Put it all back together and it worked fine.

I'm replacing that pump. I know it's a short pump off a small block chevy. Summit has an AC Delco pump for $45. Or West Marine has a Sierra pump for $210. The Sierra pump says marine while the AC Delco doesn't- but what else could be different for $165??

Thanks!

Ive had the same issue on my boat .We pulled the boat out of the water and it turns out the only issue was the belt was a hair loose . I checked all the accessories and everything seemed fine so I put the belt back on with a slight bit more tension and it was all good . Hopefully thats your issue as well .

bearing could be on the way out. as far as marinized, if flow is the same, wouldn't be worried too about running a non-marine water pump. Check your part numbers on that Sierra, says for 4.3L motors

confirm your engine rotates the same way and the pulley dimensions are the same. some auto pumps don't extend the pulley far enough for marine apps

So I ordered a water pump for a 68-72 Chevy 327. Same exact fit, finish, and flow numbers. Pump spins the correct direction and everything! I was told the pump will probably only last a couple seasons since the impeller isn't SS, but the only I took off wasn't SS either. Took the boat out Fathers day and again today- all is well!!
