they make 9 ocean "fish" boards. i believe they do some boards in Asia and some hand shaped and glassed in CA -- they kind of cater to entry/interm level surf crowd (ocean) as their price point is much lower (in general) than similar hand shaped ocean boards. i met them at ASR in San Diego - nice guys.

the puffer seems a little thick (3") for any real performance wakesurfing, (i got to hold it and look it over at ASR ) but from the design and pics I've seen - looks very stable and ridable behind the boat. There was a pic on here with a guy and girl on the board together a while back...

the board is on of the most fun things I've ridden.
My girlfriend and I both can ride it(she weighs 130 and I weigh 190), and we've had people bigger than me and smaller than her ride it.
At first it kinda feels like riding a garage door, but it's surprisingly nimble.
I'm always a little shocked at how far behind the boat I can get and still catch up.
And we can both surf together. That was us riding it.

Glad to see some press finally on the Pufferfish for wake surfing. I am one of the owners of 9 Fish Surfboards. We are a Santa Monica based company in business for 2 years. All of our boards are hand shaped and hand glassed using epoxy or PU cores. No boards are shaped and glassed here in the states, but we do have Clyde Beatty (one of the original fish pioneers) overseeing our glassing process overseas for us.

There are 2 versions of the pufferfish. One is 4'8" long, 3 1/4" thick, this is normally used as a true surfboard. There was then a modified puffer made specifically for wakesurfing. It is 4'8" long and 2 1/4" thick. This is the board pictured above.

The puffer was tested thoroughly througout the summer 2007 season and did it ever work great for wake surfing. It is a great board for those first learning to wake surf, and for anyone looking to truly capitalize on the "surf" feel of wake surfing. It is very easy to ride and it is unbelievably stable. If you are looking to do 360's and other tricks, this is not the board for you, but it is truly a great board to get riders of all ages and shapes stoked on wake surfing.

Feel free to check out our site at www.9fishsurf.com.

Thanks for the great write up Vince, you are the godfather of the Pufferfish in the midwest.

For any inquiries on the pufferfish, feel free to contact me at ripafish@gmail.com.

Matt
