How many have rigged up a 12 volt winch on their lift for getting the boat out of the water. I was thinking about getting an ATV winch and trying it out to see how it would do. The ones they sell for boat lifts are like $600. The neighbor rigged one up on his pontoon lift. It is really jerky but it seems to work as he has had it for 2 seasons now.

I put a "strongarm" winch on the boat lift i had before now. they make a ton of different models 12 volt and 120. It worked really well. Only thing bad about these winches are that they are a bit noisy. But easy to maintain and change parts out.

The backing plate bolt holes lined up perfectly. So I just had to take off the big old manual wheel and winch and put one like this on.

Do you have a cantilever style lift? And if so do you have the double pulley system on the carriage frame?

When i had the strong arm winch, i did indeed have a cantilever style lift. It was the shoremaster 36108.
