Looking at a new boat, checking out a new Super Air Nautique 230 or Mastecraft X-25. Currently have a 2009 Super Air Nautique which I love, however, want a bigger boat. Have spent some time in a friends X-25 and consider it comparable inside to the 230. Do not want to turn this into a "this manufacturer versus that manufacturer," just want opinions from peeps who have ridden either. I have been riding behind CC for 12 years now and am leaning towards the 230 however was really impressed by the X-25. I have not ridden the new X-30 yet, so may demo that before I purchase. Both brands have good, established dealerships in my area.

How many people do you plan to carry? What watersport do you like to do ie ski, tube, wakeboard or surf?

The wakeboard wake behind the 25 is pretty sick, Surf wake was very good. I have ridden an older Nautique super air 230 and it was pretty nice also. The impressive part about the 25 was the interior room.

As much as 10 people, maybe more. Mostly wakeboard, some surfing.

Both boats should work well. You wake preference will decide it.Demo both and see which one you like best. The Mastercraft wake will be a little wider and harder but the SAN wake is also top notch.

If your worried about what comes out the back aka the wake then hands down the 230. I had the ballast plus a sac and 13 people in his MC and other than the wake being wide, it was garbage. I personally feel that MC is too much bling and has let there craftsmanship fall off over the yrs

You had 13 people in an X25 and you thought the wake was "garbage"? I find that incredibly hard to believe!

I've ridden behind both boats. Both surf well. I'd have to tip my hat to the 230 surf wave, but not by much. If you like to wakeboard a lot and tend to put more than 1k over factory in your boat in ballast, id go with the x25 - that is, unless you like riding at 80+ ft at 25+ mph. I owned. 3 230s in a row. I like to slam my boats, and I don't like to ride super fast. I had issues with every 230 experiencing a washy and finiky wake when slammed @ anything less than 25 mph. It didnt wash all the time, but when you'd cut in it would tend to roll the lip shortly before you reach the wake. You're going to hear some different opinions, but that's my experience. If cost is the same, and the wake is a big factor, I'd go with the x25. If you don't care that much about a slammed wake, then it's purely a styling/size question. The interior of the 230 is roomier then the x25.

This is a pretty fair comparison .Price, room and wake are all somewhat equal . Take your time and do your homework . Warranty ,ergonomics and ease of maintenance should be involved in your decision . Look at the little things hinges, switches, ballast impeller location battery location . Try to look at used boats to see how they hold up in time. Look at used pricing and time on the market for resale. Test drive, ride both boats bring your friends if you you want 10 on board then bring 10 . I own a Nautique and it would take a great boat to make me change brands . Either way post the results of your quest and the reasons you whet that way.

If its that close, turn to customer service rep. Mastercraft cash reward program scam would steer me toward Nautique.

If storage is a concern, remember that the X-25 is over 1 1/2 feet shorter than the 230. Also if you are a do it yourselfer, you will really appreciate the Ilmor motor in the 25 along with access to the water impeller. The wedge shaped ballast tanks in the 230 make it a pain to work on. The techs at our shop hate working on 210/230's.

i personally like the 230 better the wake is awesome and the boat looks badass. when i ride the 230 i usually throw alot of extra nose weight and the wakeboard wake is a monster. the x25 is cool too but i feel like the wakeboard wake is not as good as the 230, and i dont ever surf so the wave doesnt matter to me. demo both and see what you like best

230 hands down. While a huge fan of my of x star wake I love the new 210 hull wake as well as the 230 wake.

Since we are talking new..........Nautique wins in warranty, nautique wins in value, and nautique wins in quality. No tower issues, no computer issues with ballast going haywire, and no patch jobs to cover up rushed designed flaws. The wakes are each great in their own respects with different characteristics. I am an MC guy thru and thru, but Nautique is just a bit ahead of MC in quaquality these days. Head over to Mastercrafts forums and see the debochery from those with new boats. While their new 25 hull is killing it wake and ride wise. There are just too many other small issues with towers, hulls, and computers that they haven't eliminated in years to get my business.

I just simply love the lines of Nautiques these days as well as their wakes.

I cant believe you said that. The 210 and 230 are hard to work on ? I have a 210 the engine side walls come out by pulling 2 pins leaving unobstructed access to the engine no steel frame to work around. On the 230 the entire rear of the boat opens up like a corvette to access the engine. One of the reasons I chose a Nautique is its accessibility for maintenance. I never checked out the X25 but I know the X15 is no prize to work on . You say the 25 is easier to work on? Now that is a big statement well worth a trip to MC tomorrow and check it out..

Wakes are pretty tight on both. I'm not worried about how hard the maintenance will or wont be, not me doing the maintenance. Buying MB is not an option. Will check into the issues with ballast and tower further on the MC. Don't care to have a boat that doesn't work right, however, my buddy has had zero issues on his 25. I'd like to see what kind of wake the new X-Star will throw. Any word on when it's being released?

boat was obviously even, unless you guys are what we like to call a "heel side hero"! haha jk. but yea i like a wide wake when possible which it was, but tall as possible like a meaty snowboard kicker which it was no where even close to. nothin close to impressive.

I read June 2013 for the Xstar . I was told at the boat show the new star will be in the 160k range you could almost buy the 230 and the X25 for that.

As a tall guy I wish CC would make their seats taller! Just feel like I am sitting on the floor. My old school X star seats seem taller than my buddies brand new 210. That would really be my only bitch on CC. I find it funny that the drivers seat floor board is scooped out. So that seat is comfortable for me.

While the pickle fork does give it more total space, I didn't like how short the bow in the X25 was. The extra room didn't seem as useful since I couldn't actually stretch my legs out to sit comfortably.

10+ people? If you don't have a length limit, sounds like you should also consider the "wake limo" (247 LSV):

In the OP you state that you are a Nautique guy and love them. You mention not riding many other wakes but Nautique for 12 years. Seems like you should probably just stick with Nautique. They are a brand you know well and love. Why mess with success?

230 Hands down, we've had many customers choose the 230 over the X-25 this season as well.

The 230 and the 210 do not use "wedge" style tanks above the floor any longer. Everything is below the floor and both motors are very easy to work on.

Speaking of engine maintenance, how is the service network for ILMOR motors? Seems to me that PCM has a much more established network of dealers outside of Nautique dealers and within dealers. Take your PCM engine to a MC/BU dealer and they'll know how to work on it. Take an ILMOR to a BU or Nautique dealer and I bet they look at you like your crazy if you've got a serious problem. ILMOR is not sharing information openly to other dealers on how to service problems on the motor.

Servicing an ILMOR is not a big deal, they run 5.7 and 6.0 liter engines as well as a 6.2 and 7.4 which is the only exotics in their lineup. We are a good sized MC dealer with customers in VERY remote areas and servicing an ILMOR has NEVER been an issue. Nor was it an issue when we ran Indmar, even for customers who only had mom and pop shops close by.

Give both boats a good going through, they are both outstanding boats. If you have a chance drive them both. At the end of the day choose the one that you like the best, you are the one spending hours and hours in the boat every summer.

Congrats!

230 - sexiest boat on the water currently - IMO

The SAN 230 can also be a great bass boat too!

Ridden both boats (only once in an X25, and about 130 hours in the 230 this past summer). Tried a few different weight setups in the X25, and was not able to get it anywhere near as close to as big as the 230 wake. The wake is still good compared to many boats, and you can get a way with riding a bit slower.

For the 230, you can run around 3000 pounds @ 75 ft and as slow as about 23.5 - 24. If you run around around 5000 - 5500 pounds you're gonna have speed up a bit...probably can ride around 24.8 or so at 75 ft. We ride around 5500 pounds, 90 ft at 26.5 mph.

One of the bigger considerations should be the dealer and the service they will provide.

Think I'm going to wait and see what the new Star will do. I've been asking around and seems most people pointing me towards the MC. On here most saying SAN. I don't care for Bu, only other boat I'd consider would be a RZ2 or 4 though I don't have alot of experience with the 2 and none with the 4. Dealer is a little further as well.

The new star isn't supposed to be out until 2013 . I was quoted around 160k but no one knows for sure. If your stuck with your 09 SANTE until then my heart goes out to you. What ever you buy give us a post as to why you chose the one you get.

The 30 does look good. I think I'm going to hold off for now and wait for the new XStar and see what that will do.

Also consider the weight you have to add. We can get a great wake in our friends X-25 with only 1000 lbs over stock. It gets huge. The 230 seems to take tons of ballast, similar to my X-star. Not an huge issue but it affects the time you spend filling and emptying ballast and wear on the motor.
Old     (simplej)      Join Date: Sep 2011       02-06-2012, 8:44 AM Reply
yea the 25 wake gets huge with weight.
i cant comment on the 230 but the 25 is an absolute pig on gas, and the 5.7l is not near enough motor, repropping might remedy

We run 400's in the back on the 230 and that is all. Wake is clean and has great pop.

Some guys out there run 750's, then its insane!
