Purchased some single fixed style surf racks for my Mailbu Illusion X tower. Have the factory swivel racks for wakeboards/skim boards and plan to add the single racks for a surf board on each side. Does anyone have input on best to have surf racks above or below the swivel racks on that tower? Pros vs cons? Any pics appreciated. Tks

You know, tige has that surf bimini, but I bet you could do that conversion with any canvas place really easily. Putting a couple of boards on top of the bimini is a great option. I have thought about doing the same thing on our 24Ve bimini. Sew a couple extra squares to make pockets and then a couple of straps.

You could do something like this:

Those straps look great, I wonder if those would work universally, thanks for the link...

You could also mount these on top of a 6 ft tower with quick release clamps and easy mod to the bimini. If you have a taller tower, you could mount these upside down in the middle of the tower. Instead of using bungee cords, you could use 1 inch straps with Dakine pads on them. These would make great racks for custom boards.

They will work best in the top position.. Did you get them with 32 degree forks?

I think you are looking for these racks they are DBOT 5 double racks and fit everything except the thickest boards and they do not interfere with the bimini

I still have brand new DLX double surf racks with 32 degree forks in both fixed and spinner style that match the factory racks.. They are just waiting to be on a boat

The DLX racks were a factory option for that year.. They are the same as the spinner racks in the picture above..

I will have to check on the 32 degree angle issue. Not sure about that one.

Anyone know where the heck you can get some Dbot5 surf board racks like the ones in this thread???? After 2 months and 2 surf rack orders and many trips to machine shops I still have no solution for my surf racks that is desireable. I just got another set of racks today, was assured the clearance of the anlge of the forks would not let the surf boards be interfeared with the boards in the lower rack but,,,,sure enough,,, put them up there and you guessed it, the wakeboard boots in the lower rack are still in the upper rack fork. I just don't understand why this has been so hard to get right as the manufactures I've worked with seem to say theirs will work but,,,same old clearance issue. You would think with surfing getting so much more popular this would have been better thought out.

With as many views as this post has had can some of ya post pics of your set ups so others can get some ideas ect... and if there are needs maybe a manufacturer will take heed and build some stuff for various applications, tks.
On another note, I really do not want to cut flaps into my bimini to get to boards on top of tower and also have concerns for head room for the taller guys but if I can't get the racks I want with proper angle for upper locations on my Illusion X tower I may have to go that route for awhile. Ideas appreciated.

Harold, thanks but a friend has those low angle/flat racks on his tower and he does not like them. I don't want to replace my 2 existing racks. There just has to be a better way. The Dbot5 racks were just what I need but no one seems to want to make some with that angle/cut ect..????

I have looked into those as well but then you loose use of bimini top, if mounted on the Illusion X there is just not enough head room under the tower. Trust me,wish it were that simple. I really dont want to have to replace my lower forks due to cost. I have looked into havin the mounts modified for the right angle off the tower but it's cost prohibitive and voids warranty of racks ect...

You might check the Bullet Lines site. Krypt is their rack line and they make a single point adjustable rack that might work. I have one for my tower and it is a well made product that has a ton of adjustment to get it where you need. Not sure if it will work for your tower but it's certainly worth a look.

Had the Krypt's. Sent them back, to much mods needed to get them to work on the tower with correct angle.

Here is the new custom rack install on my tower. I used some cool thumb screws and tapped my tower so that I can still put my bimini up. I am going to have my upholstery cut a small hole in my bimini.

That looks really nice, I wish my over the top bimini wasn't in the way.

I am going to cut a simple hole in the bimini so I can use both.

I may not even use a bimini this year

... mounting the boards on top provides a good amount of shade anyway.
Just make sure you use a boardbag if you are using your boards as a bimini
