First, you should not use a baseball grip on the handle; hold it with palms down to help keep tension on the line. What helped me is to not try to turn and edge towards the wake at all. Edge out, then wait for the boat to start pulling you back towards the wake (be patient). As that happens, look up the line, get on your heels, and try to get more & more tension on the line as you get closer to the wake. When you get to the bottom of the wake, start to stand up by pushing off the heels; don't absorb the pop with your knees. The goal is to have the most spray coming off your board at the wake and tension on the line. Once you get it, you will be surprised how easy it is to get across. Good luck!
