I am interested in anyone's experience with a 2014 or 2015 Super Air Nautique 230 with NSS. I have a line on a pretty good deal on a 2015 but haven't had a chance to demo yet. Hopefully get out next week for a demo. I am most interested in the wakes push. Not to concerned with wakeboard wake. Thanks

I wrote a pretty extensive review a year or two back on one. Search Nautique 230 on wake world posted by me. A few others also chimed in on it as well

I have a 2014 SAN230 with NSS. I ordered mine with the pro-ballast option, but have swapped out those bags for 750s. With factory pro-ballast configuration the wake is very nice. With the 750's it is awesome! Our regular crew normally all ride at 10.9mph, full ballast, NNS of 1or2, and hydrogate at 1 to 2. And have the people sitting biasing the surf side. We increase the hydrogate setting when there is more people in the boat. Running at a slower speed will increase the wake size. I don't think you will be disappointed at all. We can also ride and recover far back. Having boards that perform is also a bonus.

Good luck with your demo. If it only has the pro-ballast, think about adding bags on top of the factory bags during your demo, so you get a feel for what the wake would be like with 750s.

We ride a 2014 230 often. Gary hit the nail on the head there. Awesome surf boat. We have a G23 and a G21 in the lineup as well and prefer the 230.

You are saying the 230 surfs better than the G23? How do they compare on the goofy side?

The difference between a G21 and a 230? Well, thats easy.. the Surfwake is different and because a "one fits all surfwake" don't exists.. some prefer the G, others the 230..

With stock ballast and 3-4 People on the boat, imho, the G21 makes the better surface then the G23 (pre 2016).

We ride the G23 stock. I am sure that can be improved on but it is so good stock that we don't feel the need. We appreciate the convenience.
The 230 has the 409hp engine and has 750's plumbed into the rear corners (400's last season and it was average) so storage is taken up. It also has a bit more bow rise so you need bow weight for it to get on plane. We find the 230 has a better Regular wave and we run the NSS on 1. NCRS at 5 and NSS at 3 on the G. I think the 230 is an awesome surf boat.

I agree with Gary. We have a '15 230 with 750s plumbed in the rear and 1300lbs of lead added throughout. Plenty of push and length allowing for riding far back and deep bottom turns. I have surfed behind a '15 G23 with added 1100lbs in each rear locker and a crew of 6 in the boat and it too had impressive push, length and height. I was not impressed with the push coming from a '15 G21 with 400lbs lead added in rear lockers with 5 in the boat. Enjoy the demo!

I have surfed a '14 G23 stock and a'14 230 with 750's in the back. The owner also put a 400 in the bow to lengthen the wave. Was excellent. Would pick the 230 over the G all day unless the G got similar weight.

.. unless the G got similar weight?

Can you explain that a little more? What is the total ballast with two 750? Max. factory ballast on the webpage is 2100.. but with 750 you maybe have 500 on top of that?

The G was factory and the 230 had all stock (which I don't have #'s for) plus 750's plumbed in to the back lockers and another 500 on the floor in the bow. That is an extra 2000lb on top of stock ballast for the 230. If the G had that it would have been as good or maybe better than the 230.

If you switch out the 400's for 750's on the 230 do you lose the trays back there?

Is there a smaller form factor 750 bag you can use if you do risk losing the trays?

Yes, if you swap out for the normal 750 bags you see on fatsac.com, you have to remove the storage trays. I just went and measured my compartment today because I am thinking about custom ordering sacks, and want to keep the trays. The bag I am going to have quoted is:

L = 60
W = 17
H = 17

That is going to fit in there pretty tight, and may swell a bit and push on the bottom of the tray, so first few times filling it up I will fill with the hatch open and drain what I need to, in order to prevent cracking the trays. I need to go measure one more time, I only had a few minutes and rushed to measure an awkward space, and make sure the vent hose will be fine

That will take the 400 pound bags up to about 625 pounds. Just an FYI, doing the math on the fly high sacs today, the "750lb" is actually more like 720lbs, maybe it swells to 750, or they filled it with water from the dead sea. But 20x20x50 is only enough cubic space for 720 lbs of water.

A friend of mine has 550's that fit fine, don't know the dimensions though.
