Water's up to a balmy 45 here in Canada, and I've got a 5 mm wetsuit... trying to decide if I should rent a drysuit for the weekend. I'm tough as balls, but hypothermia isn't cool.

Thoughts?

I survived 45 with a 3/2 just need to get the suit off when you get out of the water.

Sh*t yes, I have been out in upper 30's lower 40's water temp, 50's air all week with a 3/2 wetsuit. The only thing that gets cold are my hands.

You will be fine.

SJ DOn't stay in the water for more then 15 minutes at a time. Get out and use the heaters between sets.

No problem. Did a shorty 3/2 last April. Air temp was in the hi 60's though too. Just don't stay in the water long.

Dude, for the hands and feet, take a big cooler and before you go out fill it with hot water! that way when you get out you can quickly warm your stuff up again!

You say your tough as balls and your whining about 45 degree water..... I went for a session on 4/20 on a lake that was half open half froze no wetsuit.... you will be fine.

take some warm water to put in your wet suit as you put it on. That way way when you get cold water wont get into your wet suit.

i've been riding steadily since March 30th in minnesota in a 4/3 wet suit...water temps were 38 degrees at that time (every lake was frozen...we went on the river). now i'm trunking it with 62 degree water temps. 45 degrees with a 5mm suit! are you kidding me?!?!? you should be totally fine. my girlfriend who is a tiny 100 pounds has been toughing it out even more than me....she has been riding a 3/2 this whole time!

Thanks Guys.

Definitely liking the cooler/priming the wetsuit ideas. As for my "toughness" coming into question...I was in lake Michigan last Feb. in nothing but a bathing suit...not that I enjoyed it, but it's a good story to tell.

BTW, I'm just heading out now to pick up my new baby, wish me luck!

I dont' know how you guys handle cold weather like that. It takes major love of the sport to jump in freezing cold water just to get an early season ride in. I'll be thinking about you guys when I'm riding at the Delta tomorrow in 100 degree weather and 70 degree water.
