04 X Star

Just saw this on only inboards. Pretty nice looking boat, the replaced interior, really helps. But listed at 950 hours, it's starting to get pretty old

I have a buddy with X2 at 1400 hours, granted it has problems, and most of them are from ghetto rigging past problems...

But is that just too many hours to consider worth getting?

It appears to be in great shape. If they have service records for it I wouldn't hesitate. That boat has about 100 hours a year on it which is pretty normal.

I think if it is maintained well that I wouldn't have a problem with 1000 hrs. I have a buddy with an 88 2001 and we surmise his has at least 1600 hrs. Runs like a top. Better than another friends whose has 650hrs.

My '04 X2 has almost 1000 hours and runs awesome. I think these motors have a 4-5000 hour service life based on normal use...of course being in a wakeboat isn't normal, but as others have mentioned, that isn't too much.

How many hours do you think you will really use it every year? If you are going to put 2-300 hours a year, then you may want to get newer or just use this one for a couple years then trade. I barely get 100 if I'm lucky so in 10 years we'll see about mine...

We ride behind one just like that same motor with 1500+ hrs....runs like a champ, it has been serviced religiously since it was bought. Dont run it extremely low on fuel or it likes to eat fuel pumps tho.

iv seen that engine at 1000 hours used with 5000+ lbs every set, im sure these people probably arent loading it that hard. offer him 29k and if he says no, walk away he will call back in a month when no one buys it

If that boat was on the east coast I would buy it.

Looks to be in pretty good condition, and the price looks good. Xstars that cheap with big engines are hard to find.

The boat is in great shape come look at it I know it will exceed your expectations. To find Any XStars for under 40k is crazy hard.
Come take it for a test ride. It runs perfect and all service was done regularly..

Hmm I'd say its a safe buy, if they used about that much and took care of the interior/outside like that then chances are they loved and treated her with care. I wouldn't shy away from the boat. Also service records don't tell the whole story, we change the the oil meticulously at 45-60 hour intervals but the boat never sees the dealer until storage so there's only 2 oil changes on record even though th oil has been changed 5 times in the boats 220 hours of use, anyways point is committed owner will ensure their boat is taken care of regardless of service records. This boat Looks aesthetically as if they were committed owners. Oh yes and my neighbors have an 07 with over 1000 hours, they have had only minor issues with the closed cooling system (it's an SS boat)

I know the guy that runs that shop were it is. I am sure he would take care of you and completely inspected the boat. It looks WELL taken care of though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hours if the boat has been properly maintained. Buying one that is used regularly and has a good maintenance record is better than buying one that the oil is seldom changed and the boat is not run much. I had a 78 Natique many years ago. The hour meter quit working in 1988 at 1758 hours, and I still ran the boat for three years. Surprisingly, the boat is still running today. No telling how many hours it has on it, and as far as I know, has never been rebuilt.

Best advice I've heard in a while is to get a "boat surveyor". Especially if you are not in the local area. Costs a few hundred dollars but could save you thousands.

BTW, that is a sweet star. It won't last long at that price.

THe only thing that would shy me aways is if you wanted to sell it after a year or so. 85% of recreational boaters wont buy a boat with that many hours. Especially if the have to finance it. Im not saying that it wont last for another 1000 hours but that is just the perception. If you plan on keeping it forever do it!
