My 2000 BU needs a replacement cover. My 7 year old cover has bit the dust.

What are my options?

1) Can I get a replacement through Malibu?
2) Can I order a replacement on the Web?
3) Should I have my local canvas shop make me a replacement?

Any advice or pointers will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here are some options

1) covercraft or rankin for a $800+ awesome cover

2)ebay for a cover for 200-300, you may have trouble finding the exact cover (tower fit)

3)Overtons

I wouldn't go with a local shop, unless you want something very custom, like side drapes. I found a great cover for less than 200 bucks on ebay 2 years ago. It was for my vlx/swoop, and it was made of sharkskin (not as good as sunbrella fabric, but better than cotton.poly).

Overtons has a exact fit sunbrella cover for:

1999 through 2001 MALIBU WAKESETTER VLX, W/ECI TOWER, COVERS PLATFORM, V-DRIVE $617.99

But, I have the BOSS tower.

Do you think the cover for the ECI would work for my BOSS?

Looking at photos of the ECI tower, it looks like the legs are in about the same place.

My Sharkskin cover has been great. It was cut for the factory tower but I had a local upholsterer cut it for my tower and cleats for $50. So don't count out your local upholsterer if it doesn't fit perfectly.

Dane,

Looks pretty close...
Check out overtons return policy, might be good then just to see if it fits. ~$600, plus you might have to buy racheting rope straps?

or buy this and have a canvas shop modify it.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Malibu-Sunsetter-LX-VLX-95-04-Custom-Boat-Cover_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ26447QQihZ002QQit emZ4624880845QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V

You wouldn't be Sunbrella but you would save a few hundred.

If you want the best, get a covercraft or rankin. Subrella fabric, truly towable (I don't know if you care), and I think it has no low points for pooling of rainwater. They are pricey...

My opinion is to either go cheap and replace every 3-4 yrs, or go with the best and keep it for 10??. I found my sharkskin for less than 200. It has been great, but it does pool water in some areas unless I am careful when I put it on.

skiboatcovers.com does good work for a reasonable price. They have custom fit covers for tons of different inboards. I got one for my SunSport and it fits perfectly. I did have a local upholstery guy cut the tower holes for me though. It was cheaper that way.

Not sure if it still applies, but the best price i've found for my own boat was at

Are you guys with "sharkskin" covers keeping your boats outside?

My boat lives on a lift in the elements -- full sun and full ran. My first cover did an amazing job for 7 years -- I really can't complain.

Yes, my sharkskin has been outside for the last 2 1/2 years. So far it is fine.

I have a sharkskin cover for my Supra that I picked up from Overton's. My boat sits outside in the summer and it always keeps it dry. I've attached a couple snaps to the bottom of it and use the poles that came with the factory snap on covers to keep water from pooling. The fit is great on it but it took close to 8 weeks to show up.

Thanks for all the pointers guys!

Since my current cover has failed in the wind, I ended up going with my local canvas shop for a custom sunbrella cover ASAP.
