Does anyone tow with the V8 model?

Thinking of getting one but the towing limit is close to the boat weight....

It is rated @ 7880 LBS and I have a Tige 22VE that I think is about 6000 loaded ( trailer/fuel/misc)

any input would be great.

Thanks

We've towed with our V8 with no problems. Mind you we don't tow every week.. .and we don't tow long distances.

It will take the wieght no problem, milage won't be the best..but it's a trade-off..

Please e-mail me if you want more details..

Also your better off doing a search in the Touareg Forum on www.vwvortex.com for input as may tow large enclosed camper trailers and put the trucks to their limits.

I went thru a drive train on the V6 towing an X Star. Can't comment on the diff the V8 would make. I changed it for a V8 LR3 which tows well.

Ouch! Can't picture a V6 pulling an Xstar.

I can't imagine a V6 pulling it's max capacity of 7716 lbs. The reviews on it indicate it struggles with its own weight, let alone towing something.

The egg will tow like there isn't anything back there, especially if you have the air suspension. It's not the towing you'll have to worry about, though.

Air Suspension is so nice... automatically levels the truck..

Also ya... V6 towing an Xstar.. lol truck takes it no problem.. I feel bad for the engine and trans....

V8 is a work horse.... plus those 13.5" brake discs with 6 piston calipers come in handy comming to a stop... (trailer brakes required of course)

If it can tow a plane, it should be able to tow a boat...

The one towing the plane is a V10 diesel that's not available in the US anymore. It may be back next year.

It will be next year... availible as a 2008 model... limited number of 2007 were availible.

Same chassis, drivetrain, brakes, suspension... only difference is the motor and trans gearing..

Towing capacity isn't the issue, it's wheelbase. The VW wheelbase is so short that it is possible for the trailer to "over take the tow vehicle" . What I mean is that under an emergency braking situation, you may not have the ability to control the braking. I responded to a freeway accident where a Toyota 4Runner was towing a tandem axle horse trailer. It fishtailed and caused both the SUV and the trailer to roll. I'm not to sure that it would have ended up that way if it had been a full size tow vehicle.

While I'm sure that the Touareg can physically tow the boat, I don't know that I'd do too much freeway driving. Just my two cents.

Erick has never driven a Treg. I can tell you I have E braked towing my 5000lb+ VLX and the trailer at NO point tried to overcome the Treg, I think this has a lot to do with the excellent braking of those Extreme trailers. Dual disk brakes make a huge difference. I towed a 19' Four winns with a single axle disk brake setup and it would stop worth a crap, and the boat/trailer only weighed about 3000lb. I have been in Expeditions and Tahoes while towing and they didn't even compare to the Treg towing ability and braking ability. Probably because the brakes on the Treg are Brembo racing brakes and are the size of mailbox. I have never had the trailer control the Treg even in windy conditions, very proud of its towing capabilities.

My friend has a brand new v 10 diesel and it's absolutely amazing. It tows just as well as my 6300 lbs range rover but pulls up the hills even better.
