hello all. i've been wakeboarding for about half a season last summer. i first got a board from a friend that was about 137cm, and about 35 cm wide. my tow vehicle is a 2006 seadoo wake(a waverunner with a ski pole on it). it couldnt pull me up.

i then got a larger board, ita about 141 cm, long and about 42 cm wide.
now i can get up just fine, and ride behind the waverunner.

when i tow my lighter friends, i can pull them around 20 mph. they have to pull me around 27 mph.

if i get a larger board, would i be able to slow down?

i just remember one time, i was trying to jump and finally clear the wake, and the speed, once i jumped, pulled me foreward. i fel like if i can get pulld at a slower speed, i will be able to jump better( or at least have more controll.

so who makes big boards?

also, how bout a kiteboard. liquid force makes a wide board thats about 145 long and 45 wide. the only problem...its $500

also, for more float, and i looking for a longer board or a wider board?

The problem is seadoo, not your board. You need a boat.

ok, now that thats out of the way, i would like to know about boards, and not bashing using a pwc to tow.

I don't think that was a bash... It's true. The PWC does not have the torque that is needed to pull up a boarder for one. It is able to do it with a lot of work for the engine. .02

the size of the board shouldnt make that much of a difference and an 06 wake edition should be able to pull you alot slower then 27. how come you had to go so fast?

Explain why they have to pull you at 27mph?

I wasn't bashing.

When one selects a wakeboard, usually you're looking at how the board pops, tracks, lands, etc....for you. Not how easy it is to get out of the water.

Props to you for using what you have.

hmmm... so you probably couldn't get up on a skate, much smaller than a wakeboard annd what most people ride behind a pwc. Something's wrong...

once you get out of the water, can you slow down to 20'ish?

you may be "fighting the pull" instead of gliding thru the water until you get up. once you're up, slower should work.

What wake are you clearing??

we're not bashing, just a little confused.

ok, the 06 wake has plenty of power, thats not the problem. the high speed is because i feel like i am sinking all the time. if i watch a wakeboarder on tv, or my light friends going, the board seems to be floating above the water. when i go, i look at a picture after, and it looks like the board is half way sunk in the water, and i am putting up a ton of spray, just riding. i can get up and out of the water just fine. i am just looking for a way to float more once i am up. i feel like a wider board might help that. is this true.

also, would this just be a weight distribution thing? i feel like i might be leaning back a little too far, so it might make it like i am making the ski work too hard, and then once i lean a little more level, the speed might shoot up.

Increased surface area will help you stay on top of the water.

I would not be surprised if 99% of your problems are technique, not equipment.

i am pretty sure it is as well. its just me and 2 friends who have never done it before, going out and screwing around. were not too concerned with jumps and such yet, plus, its a pwc, so there really isnt much of a wake to get more than a 180 in for us beginners.

leaning back too far will definately cause you to feel like your plowing. the best advice i can give is try to stay about 50-50 wait distribution maybe just a little bit more towards the back and get more practise!
like i said, a sea doo wake edition should be able to pull you easily.
about how big are you?
ive seen some guys that are like 6"4 6"5 250 wakeboarding so there shouldnt be anything wrong with the board.

I rode for a long time behind my old '96 SeaDoo gtx. You work with what you've got. As long as you're getting out there and riding, that's what's important.

Set up some sliders, and swap pulls on the sliders behind the PWC for pulls behind someone's boat. It's a good way to meet some more experienced riders and pick up a few tips!

how big are you? ht/wt.

need to know that before we know if the 137 is sinking b/c its too small for you. FYI i'm 185 and still play around with a 137 from time to time.

get the handle lower. you won't get pulled forward.

And you're riding a 137? I'm 5'10" 160lbs and I ride a 139, to put that in perspective.

-Steve

P.S. 139 is 'technically' a little big for me, but I prefer a little bit longer board.

no, its 141

At 285, you're gonna want to find the biggest board you can get your hands on. Or, drop a few lbs...

A little off topic, But i have a question for you all that might help Jon as well.

What would be the advantage of going from a say 141 to 145?

Is the State really asymmetrical? Sounds someone got hold of a keyboard and forgot to bring the facts...

For him, a larger surface area is going to allow the board to plane out at a lower speed. For more advanced riders, a increased surface area is going to pop more off the top of the wake.

It is asymmetrical.

Company comments: The building block for the rest of our line. A shape that lets a rider determine what style of rider they are.
Asymetrical shape allows the rider to ride higher up on the wake on their toeside edge with increased leverage on ol' heelside.
